Abstracting the Coast : Shapes, Lines & Landforms (Weekend Workshop)

Starting On-location we will get warmed up with line and shape drawing—capturing Salcombe scenes, hills, boats through fast gestural sketches. Back in the studio: experimenting with simplifying and abstracting forms and Colour studies inspired by what we have seen. Combining simplified shapes into semi-abstract compositions. Aiming for a final piece if possible but no pressure. Enjoy! You will need: Sketch book – A3 or A4 Paints, acrylic or water-based oils for ease of drying. Brushes and pallet knife. Old rags / cloths / kitchen paper for wiping brushes. Apron if needed. Pencils & oil pastels for sketching. (I tend to use oil pastels) Canvas or canvas board www.liesewebley.com

Photomontage (One Day Workshop)

A brief introduction followed by going into making small photomontages using cut and paste to get a feel for the medium and its possibilities. There will also be a visual presentation to show how photomontage began as we know it in the early 20th Century in movements like Dada and Cubism. Then we move on to making a bigger, more considered piece which can be a free exploration or to explore a theme / idea like personal history / family photos or historical / political themes or any other subject which interests you. This is also where we can bring in drawing and painting to make mixed media imagery. You will need: One small sketch book A4 or 5 One larger sketch book A3 or loose sheets of A3 Glue e.g. Pritt Stick Scissors Water based paint you like to use e.g. watercolour, gouache etc. Pencils and brushes Printed photographic imagery you would like to use in photomontages, which you are happy to cut up i.e. bring copies of precious originals. Beginners’ Introduction to Painting the Landscape (One Day Workshop)

This one-day workshop is open to members and non-members who are beginners or for those who have never painted but would like to try. The basic principles of painting a landscape will be explored in a supportive, enjoyable and relaxed learning environment. Students will learn how one can transform a ‘flat surface’ into a three D image one feels one could walk into. All materials needed will be supplied. Summer of Play at Coleton Fishacre

Summer at sea begins here. Embark on a hands-on adventure packed with challenges and problem solving games. Explore sensory moments, get creative with building or spend lazy summer days in the hammocks and on the swing with a view at the sailors hangout on the coast. By the house, there's 1920's vintage games, from Battle Ships to Ludo and a giant version of Peggity - ideal for all the family. This year Pokémon joins Summer of Play, and at Coleton Fishacre there's a free Pokémon trail sheet (while stocks last) available to collect on the day, with a sticker for each property you visit. Summer of Play activities are free (normal admission applies).

100 years of Coleton Fishacre

In honour of Coleton Fishacre's 100 years, there'll be a series of things to see and do over this year. Discover a pop-up photographic exhibition of archive images inside and out, documenting the building of the house and gardens. Join a guided walk with the Head Gardener on selected dates, taking a look at how the team garden for nature. In the autumn there's the return of the Earth Photo 2026 exhibition with its contemporary imagery, and to finish the year in true 1920's style, a Christmas party with a bang. Traditional Crabbing Event

Join us on Wednesday 22nd July, 6–8pm at Coastal Trail Café for a Traditional Crabbing Evening – and the launch of our brand new Plastic-Free Crabbing Line Recycling Scheme, in partnership with Till The Coast Is Clear. Sarah Dunn from TTCIC kicks off the evening with a talk on conscious crabbing – why our shore crabs deserve more care, and how plastic drop nets are ending up around seals’ necks in our river.
