I built Near Here because there's no good way to find what's actually happening near you.
I've got kids, and we were always missing brilliant local events — the village fete, the charity fun run, the craft fair down the road. All the stuff that's listed on a venue website you'd never think to check.
The big event sites? They'll happily show you a concert 50 miles away. But the cake sale at your local church hall? Invisible. I wanted to fix that — for my family, and for the brilliant local businesses putting these events on.
How we find events
We automatically check hundreds of venue websites, council listings, event feeds, and ticketing sites — all the places where local events actually get posted. Then we put them in one place so you don't have to check a dozen different sites yourself.
Every event on Near Here links back to the original organiser — we're not trying to replace anyone, just make sure their events actually get seen by the people living nearby.
Why it matters
Local communities are at their best when people show up. The pub quiz is more fun with a full house. The charity bake sale raises more when the whole village knows about it. The kids' football club needs parents to actually find out it exists.
I'm building Near Here to be the easiest way to discover what's happening around the corner — not across the county.
Starting local, growing outwards
We started in Surrey — it's where I live, so it made sense to begin here — and we're now live across multiple regions. The plan is to keep expanding across the UK, one area at a time, making sure we do each one properly.
