Doors 7:45 PM, Music 8:30 PM - 2 set(s) of music Line-up: Ashkan Layegh - Piano Sam Norris - Alto saxophone Gonçalo Maia Caetano - Bass guitar Harry Ling - Drum kit Johanna Summer (special guest) - Piano About: Formed in 2021 by Iranian composer and multi-instrumentalist, Ashkan Layegh, Phemo Quartet aims to broaden the spectrum of live-action interplay through a highly-detailed score. The band includes some of the UK’s most progressive instrumentalists; Ashkan Layegh (composer, piano, guitar) Sam Norris (alto saxophone) Gonçalo Maia Caetano (bass guitar) and Harry Ling (drums). Phemo Quartet won the second prize at the 16th European Young Artists’ Jazz Award at the 2026 Burghausen Jazz Festival. They performed alongside the London Sinfonietta for the premiere of Ephemerality and Recurrence— Layegh’s recent multi-media project commissioned by London Sinfonietta— as part of the 2025 EFG Jazz Festival. They premiered their debut project Anti-Revelation (2022)— an hour-long 5-movement cycle— at the Vortex Jazz Club. They also shared the stage at the Kings Place with ECM recording artist, Nik Bärtsch. For this concert, celebrating the release of their debut album ‘Anti-Revelation’, Phemo Quartet will be joined by German pianist and composer Johanna Summer. Summer is praised for her open and flexible playing style and her ability to set classical music in an improvised context.

Dire Streets

Dire Streets bring to life the classic songs of one of the world’s greatest guitar bands with a level of musicianship and attention to detail that makes them the stand out Dire Straits tribute in the UK. The two-hour theatre show includes faithful renditions of classic studio tracks along with extended live versions from some of the legendary Dire Straits concerts. For over a decade, Dire Streets have performed Dire Straits’ incredible back catalogue to thousands of theatre-goers across the UK. No other Dire Streets tribute act comes as close to reproducing Mark Knopfler’s distinctive guitar and vocal tones – making Dire Streets as near to the original band as you can see live. The six-piece band is made up of some of the country’s top tribute musicians and delivers a stunning show that fulfils their mission of doing justice to one of the most original and talented bands the UK has ever produced. The band makes no attempt to look like the original so no headbands or pink suits, just brilliant songs skilfully played with the enthusiasm and respect they deserve. About Dire Straits Dire Straits were one of the major guitar based bands of the late 70s. Despite forming at the height of Punk, front man Mark Knopfler’s distinctive guitar picking style gave the band an alternative and instantly recognisable sound. The band reached its peak in the mid 80s playing larger venues including a memorable slot at Live Aid.

Divine Schism Presents: Hannah Stretton

Divine Schism are over the moon to be working with Hana Stretton on her new record tour this September as she joins us at the Nest on Thurs 10th Sept alongside WOOM, who will be forming her backing band as well as opening up the evening, Hana Stretton is a British-Australian music producer and composer, recognised for her singular, deeply distinctive sound. Her stunning debut, Soon, quickly became a beloved work within the experimental lo-fi community. Phil Elverum described her music as “mysterious, deep, resonant, inhabitable,” and his label PW Elverum & Sun went on to release the album in 2024. Deeply connected to the natural world, Stretton’s work traces a vivid journey—from the dusty Australian bushland of Soon to the Pacific Ocean on her forthcoming LP, tiarn. Set for release this year, the new record takes an unexpected cinematic turn, weaving together classical and electronic influences. In 2023-2024, Hana toured with Jessica Pratt, Mount Eerie and Julie Byrne as well as selling out London’s RAH Elgar Room, and appearing at festivals such as Haldern Pop and Sound Of Bronkow Festivals.

The Pirates of Penzance is a lively comic opera bursting with wit, romance and gloriously absurd twists. As a child, Frederic was mistakenly apprenticed to a band of soft-hearted pirates after his nursemaid misheard instructions that he should be apprenticed to a pilot. Raised at sea, Frederic grows up determined to live an honest and respectable life. On the day he believes his apprenticeship ends, Frederic falls in love with Mabel, the daughter of the eccentric Major-General Stanley. However, his plans are thrown into chaos when he discovers a technicality: because he was born on 29 February, his contract only expires on his “birthday”, meaning he must return to the pirates. Torn between love and duty, Frederic faces bungling policemen, loyal pirates and a whirlwind of comic misunderstandings before the story races towards a joyful, topsy-turvy conclusion.
