Storm Tower Exhibition

To commemorate the history of the Storm Tower and the historic journey it has experienced, a dedicated exhibition has been installed at The Castle Heritage Centre. The exhibition features information on the Acland family, the history of the Storm Tower, the past and recent moves to preserve the tower, the community’s evolvement and a look at climate change which is the reason why the much loved landmark was moved and saved. This exhibition can be found on the ground floor of The Castle, just off the reception area, right of the main stairs, which is open from 10am every day offering free entry into our exhibitions and our galleries.

Face Painting for Beginners Workshop. Get ready for all those summer events by learning the skills to bring face painting to life! Whether it’s younger siblings, cousins or friends, you’ll have so much fun creating colourful designs on faces and arms throughout the season. In this fun and relaxed session, you’ll learn how to use water-based face paints to achieve bright, vibrant and popular designs with confidence. Morning Session: Beginners 10am – 12pm During the workshop you’ll cover: Which paints to use Essential hygiene practices Sponging techniques Using colour effectively in your designs Brushwork basics You’ll then put your new skills into practice by creating a tiger and butterfly design, with plenty of tips and ideas to help you develop many more designs at home. Afternoon Session: Floral Flourishes 1-3pm Florals are so much fun to paint, there are endless ways to add botanical elements to a face painting design and they appeal to children and adults alike. Discover quick and easy ways to paint them in this session. Double dip flowers Daisies Roses We will then put these techniques into practice to create a floral eye design, floral crown or arm design. All professional paints and materials are included, along with a helpful list of recommended supplies and where to source them. You can practice on boards/paper, yourself, or a friend. Suitable for older children aged 10+ and teens – no experience needed.

At my house on Breakwater Road in Bude, one of the original Mariners cottages built in the early 19th century and is superbly positioned within 100 yards of Summerleaze Beach. It has outstanding views looking across the beach and out to sea.

Exhibition: Lavenham Guildhall 75 Years

This locally curated exhibition explores why the Guildhall was entrusted to the National Trust and how the people of Lavenham helped shape its next chapter - from community hub to museum - still at the centre of our community today. There’s a feature on cinema and television, which shares how this much-loved building continues to tell new stories, on screen and beyond. Now open in the Community Room on the top floor.

Northern School of Art student exhibition

A-level students from The Northern School of Art’s Middlesbrough campus have created a dynamic display of artwork inspired by the history of Ormesby Hall and stories of Ruth and Jim Pennyman. The hall will become a temporary mini gallery, and visitors can expect to see a showcase featuring photography, ceramics, textiles and painting. The library hosts some of the students' photography. The students have overlaid images that are reminiscent of the Hall - from close-ups of textile designs that feature in the rooms at Ormesby Hall, to excerpts from diaries from the collection - culminating in diverse and striking imagery. Future Creatives, an exhibition showcasing the work of seven emerging artists from the Northern School of Art college and university can be discovered in the dining room. We have brought these artists together, at the very beginning of their creative journeys, to form a collective display of ambition, resilience, and creative growth. The laundry will showcase three original panels. Each piece has been created collaboratively using a number of mediums and skills resulting in a diverse range of unique expressions of history in a contemporary form. Ormesby Hall is open Thursdays – Mondays, 10.30am – 4, last entry into the house at 2.45pm to close at 3.30pm. Normal admission applies to visit Ormesby Hall and there is no need to book to visit.

Summer Family Craft Activity

Join us between 11am and 1pm for a hands-on family craft activity. Each week we’ll have a new craft activity to have a go at: Thursday 23rd July: Lichfield’s first museum: Cabinets of Curiosity. How would you fill your cabinet? Thursday 30th July: Georgian Science: Halley’s Comet returns as predicted! Make a “comet” to hang in your bedroom. Thursday 6th August: A Voyage round the World: Captain Cook and his journeys to the islands of the Pacific during the 1700s. Make a sea horse and a parrot mask. Thursday 13th August: Lichfield Cathedral. Make a stained glass window to put on your bedroom window. Thursday 20th August: Dr Johnson and his teapot: Make a decorated teapot just like Samuel Johnson’s. Thursday 27th August: Animals. Make puppet animals to take home. £2 per child for the craft activity, accompanying adults free. Booking is not essential, drop-ins welcome. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Entrance to the Museum is free and we have lots of fun free activities including quill pen writing, colouring-in, and costume to try on.

Exhibition - 'The Art & Craft of Print'

This large show of limited edition original prints includes the work of Angie Lewin, Mark Hearld, Emily Sutton and many more high-profile artists. Gallery spaces will cocoon the visitor in the artists’ work, with the use of fabrics, wallpaper and furniture creating an immersive feel, alongside tools and film that demonstrate the ancient art of printmaking, from wood blocks to lino cuts.

Exhibition: The Art of Collecting – 100 Years of the Fairhaven Legacy

In 1926 Urban Huttleston Rogers Broughton, the 1st Lord Fairhaven, along with his brother Henry, bought Anglesey Abbey house and gardens. Over the next 40 years, Lord Fairhaven shaped the house into a unique home – designing new rooms and spaces which he filled with an eclectic collection of historic objects and artwork. Upon his death in 1966, the house, gardens and collection were handed over to the National Trust to be enjoyed by the public. This summer’s exhibition looks at Lord Fairhaven’s love of collecting, the treasures accumulated during his four decades at Anglesey Abbey, and his vision for the legacy he left behind: 'My thought and hope is that in a changing world the house, its furniture and the gardens and their lay-out should be preserved and kept representative of an age and a way of life that is quickly passing' This exhibition is free for National Trust members and included in an admission ticket for visitors.
