Summer Bunting Printing Workshop (Age 8+) – Summer Holiday Workshops

Create your very own personalised summer bunting using beautiful Indian wooden printing blocks, fabric paints and colourful summer-inspired designs! In this fun and creative 1.5 hour workshop, children aged 8–12 will discover the art of block printing while designing a unique piece of fabric bunting. They can choose to create a row of flags featuring their name or decorate it with bright summer motifs such as flowers, leaves, sunshine, insects and decorative patterns. Inspired by the colours and shapes of summer, young artists will experiment with different printing techniques before creating their final masterpiece. You will practise printing first on a piece of cotton to learn the best techniques using a small sponge or dabber. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’ll choose your colours and favourite wooden blocks before designing and printing your finished bunting flag. Led by local artist Pippa Gillingham – who you may also recognise from our SMart Café – children will have time to practise printing on fabric, explore ideas on paper and carefully plan their design before printing their final piece. The completed bunting can be hung in a bedroom, displayed at a summer party, used to decorate a garden space, or given as a handmade gift. Perfect for creative children who enjoy making, designing and trying something new. All materials are provided.

Drawing Seahorses Workshop (Age 8+) – Summer Holiday Workshops

Drawing Seahorses – Get into the holiday spirit with our exciting workshop tailored for young artists aged 8 and up, with a focus on the gentle sea horse. We’ll start with some warm-up exercises to get our hands moving and our minds focused, before diving into the beautiful world of sea horses. Sea horses are tiny uniquely shaped marine fish named for their horse-lile heads and bend necks. They are renowned for their upright swimming posture, prehensile tails, and lack of scales, utilizing rigid bony plates for armour. First, Lucy will guide you as you complete a technical drawing of a seahorse, sharing her tips on how to add tone to make your art truly come alive. She’ll also provide a helpful recap on using graphite pencils to create amazing effects that enhance your drawings.Next, we’ll shift our focus to real-life images, where you’ll learn to capture the essence of your subjects using vibrant chalk pastels and colouring pencils. This workshop strikes the perfect balance between creativity and technical skill, making it a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to improve their drawing abilities while exploring summer-inspired themes. Join us for a fun and inspiring artistic experience! Lucy says “Art has always been one of my passions. I studied it at Hertford Regional College, where I discovered how much I loved the process of drawing — really looking at something and capturing its form on paper.
