Lyme Regis Summer Duck Race

Everyone goes a bit quackers at midday on Thursday 6th August at midday as hundreds of individually numbered bright yellow toy ducks are released into the river Lim at Higher Mill Flats where they hurtle downstream in a mad paddle towards the finish line at Jordan Flats. The bath time companions initially negotiate the relatively calm waters by Windsor Terrace before the fearless racers gather pace after descending the potentially treacherous weir at Woodmead Road bridge. They wind their way around the bend at Lymbrook Cottages, before riding out the bumps and dips along the stretch by Jericho with some final jostling for position with the finish line in sight.

Celebrating Scraps: The Spirit of Patchwork

An undiscovered local talent, Gill Steinberg is a master of her craft and the ultimate upcycler. Coming to the gallery for the second time, Gill will display her wonderful patchwork of small quilts, whose main point is to keep their owners cosy on a cold evening. They do, however, hang on the gallery wall as beautifully as any piece of canvas art – and just as deserving of the space. Every quilt tells its own unique story – not only of how it was created, but the stories of how Gill came by the pieces of material which make up these striking creations. The exhibition runs from Friday 7 until Thursday 13 August and is open daily from 10am until 4pm. Admission is free of charge.

Lyme Regis Candles Down the River

Sponsor a floating LED candle in memory of a loved one and watch as it drifts gently down the river Lym in the quietness of the evening as the light fades over Lyme Regis. Candles can be purchased for £4 online at lymeregiscarnival.co.uk/candlesdowntheriver or from the Carnival Kiosk in the Marine Parade Shelters on the seafront during Carnival Week. You can also purchase from 8.15pm from the starting point. With each candle purchased you can add a message which will be placed in special memory box This very special and moving event has captured the imagination of the many who have witnessed it over the past few years. Candles are released at 9pm from Jericho Bridge and are removed from the river at Jordan Flats. This is an event part of Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival Week.

Ever wondered how flour is made? This summer book your own family mini milling session on the top floor of the mill and experience it for yourself! During your 30 minute session, you’ll work together using mini hand mills to mill your very own bag of fresh wholemeal flour to take home, ready to use with your chosen recipe. There’s nothing quite like baking with flour you have milled yourself. Sessions will run at 11am, 11:45am, 12:30pm, 1:15pm and 2pm every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the school summer holidays. Spaces are limited so book early to secure your preferred date and time. Mini Milling sessions are suitable for children age 4+ and they must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Lyme Regis Town Band Summer on the Seafront Concerts

During the summer months of July and August Lyme Regis Town Band play a series of free evening concerts on the seafront which commence at 7:45pm until 9pm. The band perform not only traditional brass band classics but a selection of pop tunes, film soundtracks and music to make you smile. The popular seafront concerts are very much weather permitting but the band do their best to play if it's at all possible as both players and audience can squeeze into the shelters. Spectators are encouraged to join in the fun with shakers, maracas and bells available.

Lyme Regis Lifeboat Week

One of the town's biggest summer attractions, Lifeboat Week is a whole week of fun, games, entertainment music and displays for all the family to enjoy. All the old favourites are in the week’s attractions: the bath tub race, swimming challenges, a crab fishing competition, teddy bears' picnic and the hugely popular water or wine lucky dip. The highlight of the week will be a display by the Red Arrows at 11:30am on Sunday 16 August. A full printed programme detailing all the events is available to buy from the lifeboat station and from a number of outlets in town.

Lyme Regis Repair Café

Got a broken toaster? A wobbly chair? A favourite sweater with a tear? Bring them along to the Lyme Regis Repair Café and their team of skilled volunteers will do their best to help you repair, restore, and reuse your items, saving you money. The Repair Café takes place on the third Saturday of every month from 10am until 1pm at the Boat Building Academy. The team will aim to repair bicycles, small electrical appliances, lamps, wooden objects and small furniture, laptops, textiles, toys and jewellery as well as mending clothing and sharpening garden tools. Repairs are free of charge, but a donation is welcome. If you have nothing to fix, come along anyway to enjoy a cuppa , meet the team and share your ideas on how to grow this community initiative. The Lyme Regis Repair Café is part of an international network aiming to reduce waste through community-driven repairs. It supports, educates and empowers individuals to fix their broken items, fostering a culture of sustainability and resourcefulness.

Red Arrows Display Lyme Regis

The Red Arrows Return to Lyme Regis! Exciting news – the world-famous Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team will be soaring back over the town on Sunday 16th August at 11:30 as part of Lifeboat Week. The time of the display is to be confirmed. This spectacular display forms part of the celebrations for the 200-year anniversary of the lifeboat in Lyme Regis, making it an extra special occasion for residents and visitors alike. Recognised as one of the world’s premier aerobatic display teams, the Red Arrows haven’t performed over Lyme Regis since 2017 – so this is a long-awaited and unmissable return. Expect breathtaking formations, precision flying, and those iconic red, white, and blue smoke trails in the Jurassic coast sky.

Learn how to clean, prepare and polish your very own Jurassic ammonite and take home a special piece of history. Pick a fossil from a selection, then sand it working from coarser grained sandpaper to finer grains. Lastly polish it up until it's smooth and shiny. This is a drop in activity lasting approximately 30 minutes, so there is no need to book. The activity is free with museum admission although there is a small charge for your chosen fossil.

Lyme Eats Boutique - Street Food Market

The popular Lyme Eats Boutique returns to Lyme Regis this summer. The pop up evening street food market is a community feast held on the third Friday of each month throughout the summer months on the seafront. The stalls are situated on Gun Cliff walk on top of the sea wall, below the Marine Theatre from 4pm until about 9pm, or until the food runs out. The dates for 2026 are 15 May, 19 June, 17 July and 21 August. You are warmly invited to discover a range of delicious street food from around the world. It’s a gastronomic wonderland where you’ll find tastes inspired from around the globe, from African to Asian, European to South American so whatever you’re fancying on the day, there’ll be something to satisfy those taste buds! Choose your favourite flavours from a rotating band of local traders, grab a drink from The Salty Arms and find your perfect picnic spot. Perhaps perched upon the sea wall, or at low tide on Church Cliff beach, or share Mary Anning’s view to Charmouth. There's picnic tables too if you want to stay and soak up the market vibe. Pintxos Evening

Pintxos are one of the most enjoyable ways to graze and eat in a buzzy and lively atmosphere. Pronounced ‘pinchos’, they are typically finger-food, particularly popular in the Basque region of northern Spain known for their creative and often elaborate combinations of ingredients. They are often served on skewers or toothpicks, and are typically eaten standing up in bars before lunch or dinner. Eat as many or as few pintxos as you like - the idea is to graze the many plates of tapas on the bar counter - including a few sweet ones. Perhaps pair each one with a different wine.
