Learn how to clean, prepare and polish your very own Jurassic ammonite and take home a special piece of history. Pick a fossil from a selection, then sand it working from coarser grained sandpaper to finer grains. Lastly polish it up until it's smooth and shiny. This is a drop in activity lasting approximately 30 minutes, so there is no need to book. The activity is free with museum admission although there is a small charge for your chosen fossil.

Lyme Regis Town Band Summer on the Seafront Concerts

During the summer months of July and August Lyme Regis Town Band play a series of free evening concerts on the seafront which commence at 7:45pm until 9pm. The band perform not only traditional brass band classics but a selection of pop tunes, film soundtracks and music to make you smile. The popular seafront concerts are very much weather permitting but the band do their best to play if it's at all possible as both players and audience can squeeze into the shelters. Spectators are encouraged to join in the fun with shakers, maracas and bells available.

Somers Day Parade

Somers Day is an annual parade organised by the Lyme Regis and St George’s Twinning Association to commemorate Lyme Regis's former mayor and politician Admiral Sir George Somers who founded the islands of Bermuda in the name of King James VI in 1609. Dignitaries and visitors from the town of St. Georges, Bermuda, walk with members of Lyme Regis and St George’s Twinning Association and members of the town council at 11am through Langmoor Gardens and along Marine Parade to the Cobb, where a flag raising and memorial ceremony takes place.

Landmarks : Hilary Buckley

After three successful solo exhibitions, this will be the fourth exhibition of vibrant paintings by Hilary Buckley, a Lyme-Regis-based artist, who specialises in depicting the local Dorset landscape in her own colourful style. This exhibition is inspired by the colours and patterns of the landscape of Dorset and the Jurassic coast, especially when viewed from above, where you can see the wonderful patchwork and colours of the fields and coastline. Hilary always enjoyed art at school, but it was not until she moved to Lyme Regis from Berkshire in 2007 that she took up her paint brushes again. She joined local art groups and classes, trying out different media, including watercolours, oil pastels, soft pastels, acrylic, oils and collage. She loves Art Deco, and this has inspired her to paint the varying patterns and shapes of the local landscape in her own graphic style. As well as her original work, there will also be cards, prints and calendars available for sale. The exhibition runs from Friday 28 July until Wednesday 5 August and is open daily from 10am until 5pm. Admission is free of charge.

Come along to the Woodmead Halls from 11am until 2pm on Saturday 25 July for a cream tea, tombola and jumble sale in aid of the Lyme Regis branch of Save the Children. There will be a selection of cakes, books, jigsaws, bric-a-brac and clothing on sale.

Pintxos Evening

Pintxos are one of the most enjoyable ways to graze and eat in a buzzy and lively atmosphere. Pronounced ‘pinchos’, they are typically finger-food, particularly popular in the Basque region of northern Spain known for their creative and often elaborate combinations of ingredients. They are often served on skewers or toothpicks, and are typically eaten standing up in bars before lunch or dinner. Eat as many or as few pintxos as you like - the idea is to graze the many plates of tapas on the bar counter - including a few sweet ones. Perhaps pair each one with a different wine. Whatever you choose, you can expect a vibrant evening, full of great food and drink, in the wonderful setting of the Strawberry Tree. During your 30 minute session, you’ll work together using mini hand mills to mill your very own bag of fresh wholemeal flour to take home, ready to use with your chosen recipe. There’s nothing quite like baking with flour you have milled yourself. Sessions will run at 11am, 11:45am, 12:30pm, 1:15pm and 2pm every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the school summer holidays. Spaces are limited so book early to secure your preferred date and time. Mini Milling sessions are suitable for children age 4+ and they must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival Week

A week of events for the whole family during the summer holidays which provides great entertainment while raising money for local good causes. Among the many events, highlights of the week include the Torchlight Procession, Candles Down the River, Wacky Wheelbarrow Race, Duck Race, and the Carnival Procession finale. Fireworks - Friday 31st July 2026 9.30pm Spectacular fireworks display from the Cobb to start Carnival Week with a bang. Torchlight Procession - Saturday 1st August 9pm An iconic event as torchbearers make their way through Langmoor Gardens led by the Mayor, accompanied by the Town Crier. As participants head on to the beach they form a ring of fire on the sand before the torches are used to light a beacon. Torches can be reserved from Lyme Regis Carnival website or from 8pm on the evening of the event (subject to availability) at the entrance to Langmoor Gardens. Demand is always high for this event so it is advisable to reserve your torches in advance to avoid disappointment. Wacky Wheelbarrow Race - Wednesday 5th August 7.30pm Lyme’s funniest, entertaining, crowd-pleasing race, The Wacky Wheelbarrow Race, an evening of ‘wheelie’ great fun with hilarious race action for everyone. All you need is a partner to enter as a team along, with a wheelbarrow, ideally dressed to impress and we’re hoping to see some wacky ideas! - Trophies will be awarded on the day for best dressed, not just the quickest teams.

Lyme Regis Summer Fireworks Display

Be prepared to be dazzled by a spectacular Lyme Regis firework display! Lyme Regis harbour offers the perfect setting for an explosion of light and colour with the skies above Lyme Regis seafront illuminated by a stunning pyrotechnic display. Watch from Langmoor and Lister Gardens or anywhere along the seafront near the sandy beach. The display starts Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival Week with a bang. Please give generously to collectors on the night. All profits to local good causes. This event is organised by the Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival team and they rely on the geneorisity of those that attend putting some money in one of the collection buckets to ensure future displays can go ahead. Local businesses generously contribute towards the cost with The Slipway and Swim sponsoring this year's display. Lyme Regis Town Council make a significant contribution towards the cost. Special Event parking In addition to the standard car parks, some temporary event parking is also available throughout Carnival Week with all proceeds to local good causes. St Andrews Meadow - Haye Lane (DT7 3LR) On Friday 31st July for the fireworks, the event parking will open from 5pm and will be £5 for the remainder of the day. You will be able to park at St Andrews Meadow and make the short walk into town. The car park will close at 11pm.

Uplyme Summer Flower and Produce Show

The annual Uplyme Summer Flower and Produce Show will take place on Saturday 1 August between 2pm and 5pm. This year will be the 97th show organised by Uplyme and Lyme Regis Horticultural Society. Alongside the traditional marquee full of competition entries (flowers, fruit, vegetables, craft, photography, cookery, wine and preserves for adults and children) there will be the regular Horticultural Society stalls selling plants and books. There will also be a raffle and the popular Potato in a Bucket competition will have its normal presence outside the marquee. On the field will be a range of stalls including plant nurseries, garden tools and accessories, art and sundries. There will also be educational exhibits, demonstrations of practical gardening techniques, and ULRHS's own version of Gardeners' Question Time. Cream teas and light refreshments will be available in the Village Hall. Admission to the show is £1 for all adults, free for those 16 and under.

Lyme Regis Torchlight Procession

Langmoor and Lister Gardens will flow with a river of light as hundreds gather for the magical Torchlight Procession providing a spectacular start to Lyme Regis Carnival Week. Participants walk with flaming torches through the gardens down onto the sandy beach where a ring of fire is formed. Torchbearers then cast their torches to ignite a giant beacon on the beach. It’s a wonderful experience for those taking part and a truly breathtaking spectacle for those watching. The best vantage point to witness this spectacular event is anywhere on the seafront in the proximity of the sandy beach or in the gardens above. Torches are available for £6 each. LED foam batons for children under 16 cost just £4.00. Buy your torches online via the Regatta & Carnival website . Numbers are limited so reserve your torches early to avoid disappointment.
