Community Hoop Weaving

IMPORTANT INFORMATION Booking your place is essential so we can prepare materials and make everyone feel welcome. If you’ve booked but can no longer attend, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your place to someone else. Come and join Viv and Kate for a relaxed and friendly creative session where you’ll have the chance to try your hand at Hoop Weaving using a variety of materials. This is a gentle, three-hour afternoon designed to help you slow down, switch off from everyday stresses and fully immerse yourself in the joy of making. You’ll enjoy a calm, supportive atmosphere focused on social connection, mindfulness and creativity, where there’s no pressure to be perfect … just plenty of encouragement, laughter and time to explore something new. Whether you’re completely new to crafting or simply fancy trying a different technique, this session is all about learning, experimenting and having fun together. By the end of the afternoon, you’ll not only have new skills and something handmade to be proud of, but also a sense of calm, achievement and connection with others. Designed for complete beginners, you’ll learn what your camera actually does, how to use its settings and how to make creative choices that transform your images. Crafty Wellbeing and Connections is a gentle, creative Thursday morning session designed to help you unwind, meet others and enjoy the simple joy of making. Each week you’ll explore accessible craft activities in a relaxed, friendly space where you can slow down, switch off and reconnect with yourself and the people around you. These gentle, no‑pressure sessions are perfect whether you’re completely new to crafting or simply looking for a mindful pause in your week. They offer space to learn, experiment and enjoy being part of a caring, creative community. By the end of the morning, you’ll leave with your very own beatiful handmade dottee doll, a sense of achievement and the warm feeling that comes from spending time with others in a positive, creative environment. Kinusaiga: Textile Pictures Without Sewing

Join Our Kinusaiga Workshop Your tutor, Kate, is looking forward to welcoming you and sharing this beautiful Japanese craft with you. Kinusaiga is a modern Japanese craft where patterns are built from small pieces of fabric tucked into carved lines on a soft board. Instead of stitching, the design is created by gently pressing each fabric fragment into place, forming a richly textured, layered picture. The result is a beautiful patchwork‑style artwork that blends traditional textile charm with contemporary crafting techniques. What You’ll Do Learn how to prepare your foam board and transfer your chosen design Cut and shape fabric pieces to fit your pattern Press and tuck fabric into carved lines to build your artwork Layer colours and textures to create depth and detail Finish and mount your piece ready to take home You Will Explore How colour, pattern and texture influence your final design Techniques for clean edges and smooth layering How to design your own image, if you feel inspired This Workshop is Perfect for • Complete beginners • Anyone who enjoys textiles, pattern, or mindful making • People who like slow, absorbing crafts • No experience is needed. Wellbeing Walk with Susie

Wellbeing Walk with Susie This walk is part of a series of gentle wellbeing tasters designed to give Erewash residents opportunities to try out different activities, aimed at supporting your health and wellbeing. Tasters are running on Mondays 29th June to 27th July. This final free activity with Susie will start and finish here in at Our Crafty Place. Join Susie Lambert for a chance to connect with nature on a gentle, creative stroll and then return to Our Crafty Place to sit back and have a chat over a brew with your fellow walkers. Who can attend Open to all Erewash residents. What to expect A warm welcome, A brew, A friendly group session, A safe supportive space to try new things and meet and make connections with people in your community. Community Wet Felt Coasters

Join us for a relaxed and inspiring creative workshop led by Rachel Morley, who specialises in Wet Felting and Needle Felting. This friendly session is designed to give you the chance to learn directly from an expert in a calm, supportive and enjoyable environment. Come and have a go at making your own wet felt coasters. During the three-hour afternoon workshop, you’ll be gently guided through new techniques, helping you to build confidence, develop new skills and enhance your crafting abilities, all at a comfortable, unhurried pace and under the watchful eye of your expert tutor. Whether you’re completely new to crafting or looking to expand your creative knowledge, you’ll feel welcomed, encouraged and supported every step of the way. We believe that everyone deserves the chance to create, so complete beginners are not only welcome, but positively encouraged. During this workshop, you’ll create a charming seaside-inspired artwork featuring colourful beach huts using soft wool fibres and simple needle felting techniques. Whether you prefer bright and bold colours or soft coastal tones, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to make your design your own. Community Quilt Day

Be part of something truly special on our Mindful Making Monday We’re opening Festival Week with a gentle, meaningful project that brings Ilkeston together stitch by stitch. Between 10am and 2pm, drop in at any time and help us create a beautiful community quilt that will be gifted to a local care home supporting people living with dementia. This isn’t just crafting, it’s connection. It’s slowing down, sharing stories, making something with your hands that will bring comfort to others. Whether you stay for ten minutes or the whole session, your stitched work will become part of a bigger whole … a patchwork of kindness, creativity and community spirit. No sewing experience needed just bring yourself! We’ll show you everything you need to know. You’ll be surrounded by friendly faces, gentle conversation and the warm, welcoming atmosphere that everyone talks about. We are sad to say that The Ripple Effect Dress will no longer be with us during the Ilkeston Festival … BUT we are excited to announce that will be exhibited at The Museum of Making in Derby from Monday 13th July until the beginning of October 2026. Such an honour for all involved. It will then be coming to Our Crafty Place later in the year – hurrah! … we will keep you posted! Refreshments will be available to buy and you’re welcome to bring your own lunch or nip out locally. Come and add your stitch to something that will mean the world to someone else. FOR TICKETS PLEASE VISIT: ictaf.org A day of colourful, creative fun for families and anyone who loves to make things We’re turning Our Crafty Place into a mini summer‑holiday playground of imagination with two free sessions … one in the morning and one in the afternoon … and two brilliant activities to choose from: Pebble Painting — bright, bold, joyful designs to take home or hide around Ilkeston Creature Pom‑Poms — fluffy, funny, fabulous little characters that always make people smile Come for one activity or try both … it’s completely up to you. Everything is beginner‑friendly, family‑friendly and designed to spark creativity in all ages. We’ve got 16 spaces per session, so booking is essential to make sure everyone has room to spread out around our tables and enjoy the fun comfortably.
