We Are Scientists

We Are Scientists + Guests 7;30pm Wednesday 29th July, Club 85, Hitchin We Are Scientists is a New York City-based rock band that formed in Berkeley, California, in 1999. It consists primarily of guitarist and vocalist Keith Murray and bass guitarist Chris Cain, with drummer Keith Carne joining the band in the studio and for live performances since 2013. The band have released eight studio albums, not including their early release Safety, Fun, and Learning (In That Order), which the band have gone on to describe as more of a rough draft, than a proper album. The band’s breakthrough success came with their debut studio album, With Love and Squalor, which sold 100,000 copies in the first six months. This was followed by the releases of Brain Thrust Mastery in 2008, Barbara in 2010, TV en Français in 2014, Helter Seltzer in 2016, Megaplex in 2018, Huffy in 2021, Lobes in 2023, and Qualifying Miles in 2025. As well as music, Keith and Chris are known for their comedy, often injecting humour into their interviews, press-releases and off-the-cuff jokes at their live shows. This has been carried over as part of producing many of their own music video treatments and their 2009 series of television shorts Steve Wants His Money made for MTV, as well as a podcast series titled Dumpster Dive in 2020. This is not an experiment.

The DekkerTones are a 9 piece ska / reggae / rocksteady / 2tone covers band playing authentic ska and reggae from the late 60’s Trojan and Bluebeat scene right through to the 2tone era. Packing out venues around the region this mighty warhorse of Ska and Reggae play a set of over 2 hours getting the party started in the room every time and for lovers of that music this is a night not to be missed ! THE JACQUES, THE SUKIS AND PISTOL DAISYS GET IN THE VAN FOR ‘THE WHEELS IN MOTION TOUR’ THIS COMING SEPTEMBER In an ever changing and evolving music industry, whilst the digital age has transformed so many aspects of how artists operate, one thing that will never change is the desire to get in the van and take the music out on the road: live, personal and in your face. This coming September sees the start of ‘The Wheels In Motion Tour’, a three-band bill that will support indie venues up and down the country, showcasing some of the UKs most thrilling indie rock talent with The Jacques, The Sukis and Pistol Daisys. Curated by indie live agency Motion Talent, all three bands are part of the emerging artists on their roster, and the tour aims to boost grassroots touring through indie venues with a fan friendly low-ticket price. Mary In The Junkyard

Mary In The Junkyard | Friday 2nd October | 19:30 Really excited to announce that one of the hottest new bands around, MARY IN THE JUNKYARD will be playing Club 85 in October, courtesy of The Pad Presents. Mary in the Junkyard have quickly become one of the UK’s most intriguing new acts, stitching together haunting alt‑folk, shadowy art‑rock, and a kind of late‑night emotional rawness that feels both fragile and ferocious. Their songs drift between whispered confession and sudden, serrated bursts of noise — the kind of dynamic that hits even harder in an intimate room like Club 85.Frontwoman Clari Freeman’s voice is the anchor: cracked, expressive, and capable of turning a single line into a gut punch. Around her, the band weave violin, jagged guitar lines, and minimalist percussion into something that feels handmade, human, and slightly unhinged in the best way.’ After supporting Wet Leg in the USA on their Moisturizer Tour, Mary in the Junkyard will be performing select dates to promote their debut album.
