Whether you’re a long-time volunteer, new to the community, or simply want to take part, everyone is welcome. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet others, connect, and celebrate the spirit of giving back together. This gathering forms part of two national celebrations: Volunteers’ Week 2026 and The Big Lunch. Volunteers’ Week is a UK-wide campaign recognising the incredible contributions of volunteers. Since its launch in 1984, it has spent over 40 years shining a light on the people who give their time, energy, and care to strengthen our communities. This year, as the campaign continues with a fresh and vibrant identity, we are proud to honour the diversity, unity, and impact of volunteering right ’ Week is all about gratitude and togetherness, and there’s no better way to mark the occasion than by gathering around the table. From the genre’s explosive emergence in the mid-1970s to its contemporary incarnations, figures with Jewish roots have been present at pivotal moments in punk history. This one-off event brings together some of those key voices alongside forever-punk Mark Jay and music historian Alain Dein to trace a neon thread through five decades of rebellion and reinvention. In true punk spirit, expect a cut-and-paste happening: live interviews, DJ sets, a photo exhibition, poetry, film, and a very special punk play. Raise a glass - and some chaos -with us.

Picking Up Stones

"7pm-9pm, £20, in building, 16+, Tuesday 9 June 2026 // Southeastern CT, USA, 2026 – Sandra Laub’s 80-minute solo play, Picking Up Stones, her reaction to October 7th, has been hailed as a “remarkable combination of passion, compassion and respect for the facts.” A ‘must see’ show at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2025, Sandra gives voice to many character perspectives, from Golda Meir to a Palestinian ‘mother of martyrs’, holding up two truths: one can weep for the death of Jewish children and the death of Palestinian children. Her play questions: How can the victims, the innocents on both sides, begin to heal from their trauma? How do diaspora Jews reaffirm their belief in the preservation of Jewish values in the land of Israel? How can people of every faith, denomination, and political persuasion acknowledge the need for peace, now. The war has ‘ended’ but the peace is fragile. Jews and Muslims worldwide face a sharp spike in Antisemitism and Islamophobia. In America, political left and right swing sharply, debating the issue in the streets and on campus, and the Middle East is re-made as the world watches. Sandra grapples with emotions anyone can recognize in this swirling maelstrom of events."

The Sassoons: from Baghdad to Britain

7pm-8.15pm, £12.5, in building, Tuesday 9 June 2026 // The Sassoon story begins in the 19th century. Born in Baghdad, the extraordinary entrepreneur David Sassoon made his fortune in India and set up satelllite businesses all over the Far East. But his descendants craved acceptance in British society. Edward and his son Philip Sassoon became MPs, Siegfried Sassoon a famous poet. Hannah Gubbay was a socialite and influential collector and Rachel Beer became the first female editor of the Observer and the Sunday Times. Today, only one branch of the family remains Jewish: the descendants of Flora Sassoon and her son, David Solomon Sassoon, whose famous Judaica library was housed at his hoime in Letchworth . In this Harif lecture for Jewish Culture Month, Lyn Julius will describe some of these colourful characters and consider their legacy.

The Expulsion of the Jews from England 1290

Join Jill as she examines the expulsion in the light of the latest research and look at an individual who slipped through the net. Jill Stern is an historian. She graduated with first class honours in History from King’s College London. Much of her working life was spent as a teacher at Wycombe Abbey School and as chairman of a Health Authority in West London and vice-chairman of North Thames Regional Health Authority. Returning to academic study she gained an MA (Distinction) and a doctorate in seventeenth century Dutch history at University College London. As a doctoral student she was awarded the prestigious Pollard Prize for History. She has a book and many published articles to her credit. She has lectured in Britain, the Netherlands and New York. History is her lifelong passion and she is keen to share that passion.

Simcha Snaps! JW3's Giant B'Mitzvah Photo Album

We are creating the biggest Bar, Bat and B’nei Mitzvah photo album to celebrate this uniquely Jewish rite of passage, loud and proud. We would love to see photos from your simcha, formal or informal, classic or wonderfully wacky, from portraits to dancefloor candids, as well as invitations and menus. From 1926 to 2026, the more the merrier. We will enlarge a selection of images and display them inside and outside JW3 from this July. While we already have a small number of photographs from the Jewish Museum to get us started, we are inviting you to help us fill JW3 with Bar, Bat and B’nei Mitzvah memories. Young JW3: Improvisational Drawing

"6.30pm-8pm, £12 for workshop. £7.50 (50% discount) ticket for Kosher Giraffes after the workshop // Young JW3 presents an immersive drawing workshop hosted by artist, filmmaker and musician Hugo Max. This small group session is open to those in their 20s and 30s with no prior artistic experience required. The session will unfold through a series of playful exercises in graphite and charcoal that embrace experimentation and collaboration. Engaging with different sensory approaches to drawing, whether through touch or deep listening, the workshop will focus on process rather than product to ask questions about the role of improvisation in daily experience. This Improvisational Drawing workshop precedes Kosher Giraffes & Other Tails, a screening of Max’s experimental films featuring live improvised soundtracks at JW3 Cinema. The workshop will provide a unique perspective on the film programme. Plus, you'll get 50% off your ticket to Kosher Giraffes & Other Tails if you book the improvisational drawing workshop.
