Walk & Write

2pm-4pm, Sundays, £20 per session, £36 for 2 // Join Nichola Charalambou from Creative Writes for a Walk & Write workshop, themed around Jewish stories and related sites around JW3’s neighbourhood. We will engage our senses and take inspiration as we walk, followed by writing time back at JW3, where we will also have time for a coffee & pastry. Our walks will include the JW3 mural and stories, prominent local characters, landmarks for the arts in the area and other points of interest. This workshop will be a celebration of the area and its rich history, in keeping with JW3’s Bar Mitzvah year. Creative Writes was formed in 2009 to develop a writing community and uses free flow writing as its foundation. There is no critique on the work, so you can write without worrying about how it is going to be received. Nichola will provide resource handouts and guide you through timed writing exercises. There will be two JW3 Walk & Write Workshops – join us for both or just one. Although the main focus will be on the writing, there is no pressure to read your work aloud to the group. What You’ll Learn: Getting ideas onto the page – learning how to start writing and keep going without worrying about perfection. Finding your own voice – writing in a way that feels natural and true to you Feeling confident to write – letting go of self-doubt and enjoying the creative process Who’s It For? This course is for anyone who wants to write, whether a complete beginner or more experienced.

Cher: Multimedia star, Cultural Icon, Living Legend

2pm-3.15pm, £20, in building, Thursday 18 June 2026 // Cher is one of a kind: a singer, actress, fashionista, gossip magnet, and LGBTQ+ icon who has been a star since the mid-1960s. Her extraordinary career includes a multitude of triumphs and failures from marriages to television programmes to films, albums, and concert tours. Throughout it all, Cher has held fast to her identity while also reinventing her image and career, defying those that wrote her off at numerous times in her career. She has hosted one of the top television shows in America (The Sonny and Cher Show), released best-selling albums, appeared on Broadway, won an Academy Award (for Moonstruck), advocated for political causes, fundraised for charitable foundations, and has written part one of her memoir (Cher: The Memoir, Part One; part two will be released in 2026). This talk will focus on Cher’s extensive multimedia career, considering how she rose from being part of the Sonny and Cher duo in her twenties to becoming a film and solo music star in her thirties and forties to her greatest ‘comeback’ in her fifties (with the single, ‘Believe’) to her contemporary icon status as she turns 80 in 2026. Dr Julie Lobalzo Wright is an Associate Professor in Film and Television Studies at the University of Warwick. She has taught and researched film and television stardom for many years, publishing work and giving talks on various stars, including Judy Garland, Elvis Presley, David Bowie and Barbra Streisand.
