Prepared by our team of pastry chefs, the Walled Garden Afternoon Tea follows the traditional combination of sweet and savoury, using locally sourced ingredients, reflective of the season and local Sussex landscape. The Walled Garden is a historic and charming setting, sat beside the iconic Cowdray Ruins—once graced by Queen Elizabeth I and Henry VIII. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a sumptuous afternoon tea in the heart of the English countryside. The Healing Herbalist Spring Foraging and Wild Medicine Walk & Lunch

The Healing Herbalist Spring Foraging and Wild Medicine walk followed by a light foraged lunch Saturday 18th April 10:00am-2:00pm This walk is hosted by Sebastian Pearson who will meet you outside the Cowdray Farm Shop ready for a 2 hour informative herbal medicine walk. The aim is to become confident at being able to ID certain local herbal medicine plants, to learn how you can incorporate them into your kitchen as food and medicine, and learn the basics of how herbal medicine can heal the body, mind and soul. A 101 of all things herbs basically. No prior knowledge necessary, just an inquisitive mind. We will then head to the Cowdray Hall kitchen to sample a light lunch of foraged soup of wild garlic and nettle (one I’ve made earlier!), foraged cleavers water that tastes like floral cucumber and sip on some herbal tea. There will also be some ‘Healing Herbalist’ products that you can purchase at the end should you desire. £85 per person. Maximum 12 people. Lunch and Learn: Gut Bacteria & Your Lifestyle

Come and discover how your gut microbiome is the seat of good health and how your lifestyle, what you eat, your stress levels and even how you exercise, can influence the diversity and richness of your gut microbes. In this Lunch & Learn session, join Nicola Russell, Cowdray’s resident Registered Nutritional Therapist who will walk us through the core elements that support a balanced microbiome and why looking after your gut isn’t always about what you eat! Perfect for anyone looking to better understand their body and feel more in control of their wellbeing. The session will take place at Cowdray Hall and includes a nourishing, healthy soup lunch. These sessions will be run by Nicola Russell, Cowdray’s resident Registered Nutritional Therapist, who specialises in Gut Health. After suffering with IBS herself for nearly 20 years, Nicola is passionate about gut health and helping others understand how to use nutrition and good lifestyle practices to keep their microbiomes healthy. Spaces are limited to 12, so book early to avoid disappointment.

The Gundog Challenge 2026

The Gundog Challenge 2026, the biggest gundog team test in the UK with 24 teams of 4 dogs from around the UK and the main body of Europe. The Gundog Challenge is a team competition event where highly trained working dogs will be working with their experienced owners to complete a number of controlled challenges and demonstrations. Teams are coming from all over the country and Europe with some of the best gundog handlers in the world. Each team will be scored by five experienced judges throughout the day on their performance with trophies awarded at the end of the day. There will also be a Scurry in which all types of dogs can have a go by giving a donation for a chance to win the best time and there will be a trophy for the winner. It’s against the clock and the fastest wins. All are welcome to turn up and enter that on the day. Come and watch how these highly trained dogs and their owners work. Spectators are welcome, with a suggested ticket donation to charity of either £2, £5 or £10. Please select the amount that you would like to donate in the ticket options below. Cash and card will both be accepted on the day. There will be teas, coffees and pastries served all morning. There will also be a live auction on the day to raise money for Cowdray’s nominated charity for 2025, Midhurst Palliative Care funding the Midhurst Macmillan Service.

Taste the Trees and Learn Wild Foods of spring

Discover edible trees, leaves and shoots with Estate forager George, from the young leaves of lime and beech to the tender tips of hawthorn. As you wander through spring the beautiful grounds of the Cowdray meadows and ruins, you’ll learn to identify edible saps, shoots, and leaves, tasting their unique flavours and celebrating foraging as a way to learn your landscape seeing it through new eyes and connecting guests to the biodiversity we have all around us. Walks will be circular, beginning and ending at Cowdray Farm Shop and will last approximately 2.5 hours. Please wear footwear that is suitable for undulating terrain. Meet George, Cowdray’s Forager: George has been foraging and using wild foods for some years, supplying the freshest foraged wild edibles to some of the country’s top restaurants, chefs and food establishments. After years of being immersed in the ‘wild’ himself, George now focuses on encouraging others to appreciate the significance of our native countryside, and how we can enjoy and protect it for future generations. Over his years of foraging George has accrued an in-depth knowledge of our countryside, its diverse habitats and the variety of plants and fungi each contains. He has covered the length and breadth of the country from the Scottish Highlands to the moors and coasts of Cornwall, in search of new native edibles as well as sustainable sources to pick them.

Field to Fork Foraging: Spring Fungi, Herbs and Blossoms Picnic Feast

Join George for a day of Foraging as you safely learn how to gather a wide range of seasonal salads, fungi and vegetables. Guests will harvest and prepare these seasonal treasures before enjoying a wild food picnic among the trees in a scenic spot. The aim of this walk is give people a chance to truly get immersed in nature tasting and cooking your surroundings in a welcoming and engaging celebration of the season. Mystery Experience: Murder at the Ruins

Take part in and solve an engaging, interactive murder mystery experience at Cowdray Ruins, suitable for ages 8 and over. During this event, you will explore the picturesque exterior of the Ruins, along with the historic Kitchen and Tower rooms inside. You will question a variety of ‘witnesses’ to gather essential clues, then present your findings in a compelling trial to uncover the identity of the culprit. This experience offers a unique opportunity to combine historical exploration with a captivating whodunit challenge, ideal for families and groups seeking an intriguing activity. This is part of a series of Murder Mystery events, and each one is different so you are welcome to come back and test your skills again and again!

Guided Run Hosted by Emily | 10:00am-11:00am  | Benbow Pond Join us for a relaxed and friendly guided 5km run starting from the beautiful Benbow Pond, a truly picturesque location. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just getting started, this guided 5km is all about enjoying the journey at a comfortable pace, meeting others, and making the most of the outdoors. Meet at Benbow Pond Car Park. Postcode: GU28 0AZ About Emily: I have been running in and around the South Downs for a long the last 20 years or so! We live in such a wonderful part of Sussex.  My passion is being outside and helping others to explore and find adventure in our wonderful local area too. I have competed in many different distances and disciplines, from 5km to ultramarathons, triathlons and mountain bikes races and the off-road triathlon world championships in Hawaii. I hold an England athletics coaching licence.  I have 2 children and 2 collies and love being outside with them all! Once the run has finished head to the cafe and enjoy a FREE hot drink from us.
