Wet Felted Owl Picture - Painting with Fibres

Join talented felt artist Liz Emery for a day exploring the techniques and processes behind creating fibre pictures. You will learn the basic wet felting method and at the same time be guided by Liz to produce a striking owl picture made from Merino wool fibres. There will also be an opportunity for anyone who has felted before to develop their skills further. By the end of the session you will have made a picture from wool fibres using traditional skills and techniques that will have you hooked! Leather Slippers

A wonderful workshop with Catherine Edwards, Leather Designer / Maker, learning to make a simple but beautiful pair of handsewn slippers. Learn to cut your own patterns to the size you require, and use them to trace onto top grade unwaxed leather, then cut out and mark up for stitching. You will be using the traditional Saddlers’ two handed sewing technique to stitch your slippers together and add a small heel. The making process is completed entirely by hand using genuine leather-working tools including vintage and antique pieces from the tutors own collection. Book today and give your feet a treat! Wet Felted Tealight Shade

As the nights are drawing in, bring some mood enhancing light into your home by making your very own stunning wet felted tealight shade with expert tutor Louise Curnin. In the morning session, you will learn how to make wet felted fabric from wool and silk fibres decorated in your chosen style. Using only soap and water, your imagination and a bit of elbow grease your fabric will emerge! You'll then leave your felts to dry over lunchtime and after a delicious lunch Louise will guide you through the process of making up your tealight shade. Come and enjoy a wonderful day weaving your very own decorative mat or small rug using a peg loom. This workshop is perfect for beginners and you will be supported as you create your own unique mat design design. Agnis will guide you from the initial design stage and the selection of materials through to the setup and hand weaving process. Forge your own gorgeous gifts on this hands-on day whether you are new to blacksmithing or want to try your hand at something different. Blacksmith/sculptor Adrian Wood brings forges and anvils and you will go home with several stunning creations from your day. Places on this workshop are limited. - Understand the properties of the metals you will be forging - Handle the tools and equipment correctly - Learn how to work safely with fire and hot metal - Make two sculptural flowers - great for the garden or as candle holders Please note that the day is fairly strenuous. Contemporary Collage - Inspired by Nature

Spend a day with artist Sue Orrey-Godden, learning a wide range of collage techniques. You will spend the morning exploring the composition and design of your piece and creating painted and printed papers to use alongside others from books, magazines, sheet music etc plus a few surprising natural elements. You will use various techniques in applying and layering the materials to create a vibrant, textured piece of art. The Craft of Green Wood Bowl Carving

On this one-day introduction to the ancient craft of bowl carving with Mike Craig you will use traditional hand tools to carve your own bowl from native green timber. The joy of this traditional craft is that it requires few tools and materials. We will use carving axes and woodcarving knives to shape the outside of the bowl and a selection of gouges and hook knives to hollow the inside. Safe and effective techniques of using these tools and working with green wood will be developed during the day. Throughout the course a strong emphasis will be placed on safety. We will learn how to: split green wood logs for bowl carving which woods are best for bowl carving techniques for using traditional tools methods for drying, finishing and decoration of your work At the end of the day you will leave not only with your own hand carved bowl but also with the knowledge, practical skills and inspiration to continue your green wood carving good general level of health and physical fitness is required for bowl carving as the majority of the work is undertaken while standing and the carving work can be quite energetic. Exploring Surface, Shape, and Print In this hands-on workshop, you’ll use a variety of printmaking and collage techniques to decorate your own wooden ornament, choosing from a curated selection of bird and flower-shaped forms. You’ll explore surface design through layering, texture, and colour, working intuitively with shape and composition to transform these wooden pieces into bold, graphic objects. The focus is on experimentation and process - no experience necessary. Please note: the wooden pieces used in the workshop may differ from any promotional examples shown, but a range of shapes will be available on the day. All materials are provided. Ideal for anyone interested in print, pattern, or working in mixed media.

A Day of Enameling

Come and spend your day trying out the beautiful art of enameling with local enamel artist Heather Croft. Whether you have previous experience or if this is your first time, all are welcome. Work with recycled copper and vitreous enamel (ground glass) and watch the magic unfold when fired in the kiln. You will be shown how to use decals, scrafitto techniques, glass stringers and or millie fiore, silver leaf and silver foil, lustres and stencils to create your own unique pieces. So many techniques to choose from! You will make at least 5 pieces over the course of the day. These can be panels of 3" x 3", earrings, a ring bowl, pendants or a keyring. Everything you make you can take away on the day. Please note that there is a £30 material charge payable on the day.

Ceramics - Sculpt a Chicken

Join ceramist Suzie Wright to create your own character chicken. The day will begin with you exploring the rich variety found in these surprisingly beautiful birds, before developing your ideas and translating them into a final design. You'll spend the majority of the day building your chicken using a range of sculpting tools with Suzie on hand to help you throughout. This course is suitable for beginners and improvers alike. Suzie provides full tuition and demonstrations of all the techniques needed to complete your unique creature. Silversmithing - Make a Fidget or Swivel Ring

During this one day workshop you will make a unique silver fidget or swivel ring - a broad plain or textured ring with one or two narrow rings that swivel around it when completed. You will learn: - how to measure and size a ring. - how to form and saw the ring. - how to solder, shape and finally polish the ring. Sculptured Clay Heads

In this workshop led by ceramist kay Latto you will learn to sculpt a small head - human, animal or mythical - in clay, approximately 15/20 cm using a variety of sculpting tools. Please bring printed photographs/pictures of your subject as a point of reference, particularly if you wish to produce a portrait bust, where you will require photographs, in the same pose, taken from the front, back and sides. By the end of the day you will have created your very own clay head which, after approximately six to eight weeks – allowing for drying and kiln firing – will be ready for collection. During the workshop, various finishing techniques will be discussed for you to materials and firing costs are included.

Come and join Helaina and make your very own art wirework. Taking inspiration from subjects of your choice, you will learn techniques for working with wire to create three-dimensional, wall mounted, drawings. You will first draw your design, which will be the template for the wirework. Hand Embroidery - Textured Textiles

Textiles and embroidery are so tactile and perfect to use to create a new dimension to your work. In this creative workshop you’ll explore different hand embroidery stitches and techniques to add texture in to textiles including creating and removing layers, using unusual materials, combining materials, using stitch to create perceived texture, using sandpaper and much more. The morning is dedicated to experimenting with a range of techniques creating a mini series of samples to inspire future work. The afternoon is spent putting these new found skills into place and creating a piece of textile art, full of stitch and texture that is unique to you. Weave Your Own Scarf/Snood Using a Table Loom

Spend the day weaving your very own scarf or snood using an eight shaft table loom. Each loom with be set up and ready to use, meaning you can enjoy weaving for the whole day. There will be lots of different fibres, textures and colours to choose from to create your own bespoke outcome. Participants will be given one to one support as well as watching group demonstrations. This workshop is suitable for beginners. Some participants can find weaving all day quite a physical activity. Participants often stand to use the looms though sitting is also an option.
