LGBTQ+ Book Club - July

Our first LGBTQ+ Book Club will be held at Book-ish Crickhowell on Monday 27th July at 7.30pm-9pm We are so excited to say we will be reading The Boyfriend Academy by Jack Strange! You can pick up your book from Book-ish in Crickhowell or Abergavenny. Love is forbidden. Truth is dangerous. Survival is everything. Ganymede’s is no ordinary boarding school. Behind its spiral towers and manicured lawns, boys are forged into the men society demands – strong, obedient, perfect. Graduate, and the world is yours: a home, a career, a wife. But fail… and you’re no longer useful to society. The ticket includes a glass of wine or soft drink, a discussion with prompt questions given by the host that week and a copy of the book we are reading. *Jack also has an event with us on Wednesday 22nd July with Emily Garside (author of Rainbow Wales) at Bookish Abergavenny. Do you work in the care industry? Then this might be for you!This book is to help care home staff deliver excellent spiritual and religious care to residents that require it. About Enabling Spiritual Care: A guide for care home staff Drawing from expertise developed through Anna Chaplaincy, this book enables members of care home staff teams to understand and facilitate the provision of spiritual care for residents. It explains the need for religious care, focusing on older people who are Christians, and provides examples of prayers, hymns, and services that can be used. There are chapters on facilitating worship with groups and individuals, offering end-of-life spiritual care and supporting those who are unable to attend a funeral. There are also sections on self-care and attending to your own spiritual needs. This book focuses on spiritual care from a Christian perspective, but all faiths and belief systems are respected. Event Format: Sally and Julia will discuss their book, followed by audience Q&A and book signing. Tickets: £10 without book or £18 with book Venue: The Loft at Bookish is located in our flagship store in Crickhowell and is upstairs. Please use the front door entrance from 6.45pm. Porthclais Camping Trip: 28th

Highway Adventures brings you our summer camping trip. Setting up tents in the beautiful Porthclais campsite, located in St David’s on the coast. We only have limited spaces available so don’t miss out. The £75 ticket price includes transport to and from St David’s and covers any pitching costs and access to our paddle boards! We have loads of space for tents and camping equipment. We will also bring our paddle boards for all to use. We have spare tents and other camping equipment let us know what you need and we should be able to help! There are loads of activities in the surrounding area that are free. Andy Crofts Exhibition

Musician, artist and photographer Andy Crofts was born in the city of São Paulo, Brazil and raised in Northampton England. In the 1960's his mother was a dancer at the Moulin Rouge Paris and also at London's Royal Palladium. She eventually ended up dancing in a famous circus in Brazil in which she met his father before moving back to England. Raised as an only child Andy was drawn into his own imagination developing his own world and outlet for his future art. Andy is now an established musician notably known for his band The Moons, who have 4 studio albums released, and also being long term bass player/musician for UK legend Paul Weller (The Jam/Style Council). In 2020 Andy published his first book of photography which was an up and close glimpse of life on the road with Paul Weller. As well as music and photography Andy has been painting and creating art his whole life fully immersed into the abstract and pop art world.

Her practice explores textiles as part of the human experience, the materials we wear, live with and pass on, as a means of connection. The work moves between structured often quilted, material-led pieces and brighter appliquéd, often text-based compositions. Across both approaches, there is a focus on construction, clarity of form and the communicative potential of cloth. Club 33.3 Presents … ‘Moon Pix’ by Cat Power Club 33.3 is a celebration of the vinyl album. Each month we invite music fans to step into our Loft and enjoy the breath-taking view as a selected LP plays on vinyl, in full, as the artist intended. Some albums will be familiar, some less so, making Club 33.3 the place to enjoy an old favourite or discover something new. August’s selection is ‘Moon Pix’, by Green Man 2026 headliner Cat Power. Supposedly written after a hallucinatory nightmare and recorded over five days in Melbourne with members of Dirty Three, it is widely regarded by fans and critics alike as Cat Power’s strongest album and by the artist herself as the album that saved her life. Each month, Club 33.3 also recommends a book to take you deeper into the story behind the LP. This month’s book is from Bloomsbury’s 33 1/3 series; ‘Moon Pix’, by Donna Kozloskie, blends contemporary testimony and published album reviews with fictional imaginings to explore the mythology, musicianship and magic that each play a key role in Chan Marshall’s masterpiece and persona. Highway Adventures presents the Welsh Cycling Challenge in 2026, where you'll cycle the length of Wales over 3 days. Cycling the length of Wales is approximately 210 miles and is not something to take lightly. However, as tough as it may be, the sense of achievement you'll feel when you reach Cardiff Bay is incomparable. It’s a fantastic way to see Wales, with breathtaking views of Welsh scenery along the way. This trip is fully supported. You will be joined by John, who will cycle alongside you and handle navigation. John is an experienced cyclist who has completed this challenge multiple times. He is also a skilled bike mechanic in case repairs are needed. We will also meet you at checkpoints with our minibus and trailer, carrying food, water, parts, and more so you can cycle light. This challenge is perfect for fundraising for your chosen charity. We can help promote your fundraiser across our social media channels, and we have plenty of tips to assist with raising money. Pickup Information We will be departing from Builth Wells at 6 am latest on day 1. If you'd prefer to arrive the day before, we can assist with transportation from train stations like Hereford or Merthyr Tydfil to Mid Wales. Secure parking is also available if traveling by car.
