Join us for an evening of magic, laughter and memories. Enjoy a delicious pie, pea and pudding supper and be amazed by the magic. Friday 26th June at 6:30pm. Tickets £15. Please book ahead for catering purposes. Cash Bar and Raffle on the night. This is a fundraising event for Eden Valley Hospice who cared for Stephen Cripps and is organised by Carolyn Cripps. McCusker Trio

John McCusker’s ability to cross musical boundaries has seen him tour and record extensively with Mark Knopfler since 2008, performing on major stages including Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood Bowl and the Royal Albert Hall. He has also appeared with artists such as David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Paul Weller, Paolo Nutini, Eddi Reader, Julie Fowlis, and many more. As a producer, John has shaped influential albums for artists including Kris Drever, Roddy Woomble, Eddi Reader, Kate Rusby and Eliza Carthy, while his film and TV work includes soundtracks for Heartlands, 16 Years of Alcohol, and the BBC’s Jam and Jerusalem. His collaborative projects include Before the Ruin, Under One Sky, and long-running work with John Doyle and Mike McGoldrick, as well as his role in the prestigious Transatlantic Sessions house band. John has received numerous accolades, including BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Musician of the Year and the Scottish Culture Award for Music. Sam Kelly, winner of the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and finalist on Britain’s Got Talent, has built a devoted following as frontman of Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys. His spellbinding voice, effortless charisma, and genre-blending approach have seen him perform at major festivals such as Cambridge Folk Festival and Glastonbury, as well as on stages across Europe with Kate Rusby. Toby has performed in some of the UK’s most prestigious venues earning a reputation for his dynamic, expressive playing.

Ceildh with Bald Mountain String Band in Aid of St Mary's Church

This ceilidh is supporting St Mary’s church in Threlkeld which has been at the centre of village life for many centuries. It was last refurbished 250 years ago. We want to celebrate this in style! However, now the church needs to be repaired and refreshed for the next couple of hundred years. We seek for the church to continue traditional and enlivened Christian worship eg. Messy church or dramatisations but also to be able to provide warmth and better hospitality to those using the church eg. School activities, mums and babies and social groups for older people and those living with difficulties . We are undertaking repairs and installing a new heating system (air source heat pump for sustainability) and insulation. There will also be provision of a toilet and kitchen and the removal of the centre pews to give a flexible space for activities. The profits from this ceilidh will go towards this project. Bald Mountain String Band started in the 60s as the Berkshire Tragedy, Peter and Chris, along with concertina and melodeon player, and clog dancer, Ian Dunmur, played together until Chris and Peter moved to the Lakes in 1987. They are now a family band, joined by daughter Jo and her husband Mick. Hence, Bald Mountain String Band was born.

Northern String Quartet

Members of the quartet are frequently invited to collaborate with some of the world’s most respected orchestras, including the BBC Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. In addition to their classical credentials, the Northern String Quartet has gained recognition in the Candlelight & Fever String Quartets circuit, where they perform dynamic renditions of modern pop music across the UK. Their diverse portfolio includes high-profile performances at concerts, weddings, corporate events, and as sought-after session musicians in recording studios. The quartet is also a popular choice for supporting strings on UK artist tours, showcasing their adaptability and wide-ranging expertise. Notable recent performances include a prominent appearance at the AO Arena in Manchester for BBC One’s Big Night of Musicals 2025, a National Lottery Funded event, where they performed alongside a full orchestra to great acclaim. With a repertoire that spans both classical and contemporary genres, the Northern String Quartet remains at the forefront of the UK’s vibrant music scene, consistently delivering exceptional performances and contributing to the development of both live and recorded music. Join us for a classical concert by the Northern String Quartet at Threlkeld Village Hall on Thursday 3rd September at 7:30pm. The programme will be included here soon, but it is expected to include all of Vivaldi’s seasons plus some other pieces.

Illustrated Talk: Penrith2Kendal Arc Recovery Project

In May 2024, the Penrith2Kendal Arc project started its two-year development phase, providing staff resource to work up ambitious plans for land management, community engagement, access improvement, monitoring, funding and governance. These plans will be implemented over a 20-year delivery phase, which should commence in Spring 2026. During this development phase, managed through a partnership with Lowther Farming Partnership and Cumbria Connect , the project team is working with all 30+ farmers and landowners to explore options for large-scale, ambitious nature restoration that will enhance the condition and connectivity of a range of important habitats, including woodlands, wood pasture, rivers and floodplains, hay meadows and peatlands. Planning and consultation will also be carried out to assess whether Water Voles, Black Grouse, Pine Martens and a range of other missing species can be returned to the landscape. Covering more than 16,000 hectares, the Penrith to Kendal Arc project area covers multiple watersheds and habitats and supports a huge array of wildlife. Most of the project lies within the Lake District National Park, arguably England’s most spectacular and iconic landscape. Threlkeld Village Hall, Monday 21st September 2026, 7:30pm. This laugh-out-loud quest through a patchwork of culture and community celebrates the forgotten, the resilient, and the wonderfully eccentric. Mikron Theatre Company in their 54th year of touring exceptional theatre in extraordinary places. They visit over 130 venues per year. In the summer they tour by narrowboat performing outdoors by the canal, in pubs, allotments, dry docks to name a few. Snake Davis Band

He is one of the most in-demand saxophone players in the world, widely known for his solos on tracks such as Lisa Stansfield’s “Change”, M-People’s “Search For A Hero” and “Moving On Up”, Klingande’s ‘Jubel’ and Take That’s “A Million Love Songs”. He has played and recorded with artists ranging from James Brown to Tina Turner to Paul McCartney, The Eurythmics to Amy Winehouse. As a session player to the stars he plays arenas and stadiums, but his greatest love is to play intimate venues as himself, his own music choice with his favourite musicians. Playing the saxophone family as well as flutes, whistles and the ancient Japanese wind instrument, the Shakuhachi, and vocals, it is his total passion and commitment to every note that draws people in.
