Come and have a chat and a cup of tea, practise your English and meet new friends. Conversation Café is part of our adult literacy and numeracy programme. Join us for conversation, tea and games while we use English and Scottish words and phrases, and learn about each other’s lives and cultures. Some of the things we have talked about include International Women’s Day, seasons and various cultural festivals. This event takes place at GWL but if you would like to join online from elsewhere please let us know by emailing We Make Museums: Sustaining and Changing Worlds Drop in – no need to book Accessibility Glasgow Women’s Library is wheelchair accessible, with lifts to the first floor and the Mezzanine Floor. We have accessible toilets and all the bathrooms are individual closed stalls and are gender neutral. Our larger Events Space is fitted with an induction loop. Join us for hands-on craft sessions where you can try something new and make alongside others in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Activities include candle decoupage art, mandala stone painting, tote bag decorating, outdoor photography art, and more. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just curious to give it a go, these sessions are all about creativity, conversation, and sharing ideas together. Opening Celebration Event - We Make Museums: Sustaining and changing worlds

Sorting labels for A Jukebox of People Trying to Change the World, Ruth Ewan, 2024 To mark the opening of our GI exhibition, featuring new artworks by Sohaila Baluch, Ruth Ewan and Alixandra Prybyla, we will be inviting the artists and members of the We Make Museums commissioning group to reflect on their processes and the themes in the exhibition together in a celebratory event. Join us to hear more about this ground breaking project and the artists’ complementary approaches to social justice, compassion, feminist protest and anti-racism. More about We Make Museums We Make Museums is a three year project developed by Glasgow Women’s Library to initiate crucial discussions about museum processes, empowering communities to think about acquisitions made by museums and to help shape the GWL collection into the future. The group includes 17 women with lived experiences of racism, sexism, classism, poverty, ableism, neuro-diversity, health inequalities and trauma who have worked together, supported by GWL staff, for the last two years. Inspired by GWL’s unique history as a grassroots counter-cultural organisation, challenging inequalities in the cultural sector, the We Make Museums group has been working hard to think about how we might differently shape the GWL museum collection, for the first time with an acquisitions budget.* At the end of last year, following a hugely popular open call to artists, the group worked with the wider community at GWL to select three artists...

Each month, we explore a different short text—anything from poems and essays to podcasts or videos – that opens up meaningful conversations about identity, culture, power, and the many ways our experiences intersect. Whether you’re a lifelong reader or simply curious, you’re invited to join a vibrant community where your perspective is valued. Sessions are held online and in-person. Sorting labels for A Jukebox of People Trying to Change the World, Ruth Ewan, 2024 Join us as we welcome anarchist aristocrat Eleanor Anstruther, author of FALLOUT, a darkly funny coming-of-age novel about identity and family secrets, set against the backdrop of the Greenham Common Peace Camp (an anti-nuclear peace camp run by women between 1981 and 2000). Eleanor will be in discussion with GWL’s Donna Moore about the inspiration for FALLOUT, the unique role women can play in activism and Eleanor’s own life at the forefront of activism: abandoning a privileged existence to chase eclipses, set up a commune, and build a stone circle by hand.
