Sorting labels for A Jukebox of People Trying to Change the World, Ruth Ewan, 2024 To mark the opening of our GI exhibition, featuring new artworks by Sohaila Baluch, Ruth Ewan and Alixandra Prybyla, we will be inviting the artists and members of the We Make Museums commissioning group to reflect on their processes and the themes in the exhibition together in a celebratory event. Join us to hear more about this ground breaking project and the artists’ complementary approaches to social justice, compassion, feminist protest and anti-racism. More about We Make Museums We Make Museums is a three year project developed by Glasgow Women’s Library to initiate crucial discussions about museum processes, empowering communities to think about acquisitions made by museums and to help shape the GWL collection into the future. The group includes 17 women with lived experiences of racism, sexism, classism, poverty, ableism, neuro-diversity, health inequalities and trauma who have worked together, supported by GWL staff, for the last two years. Inspired by GWL’s unique history as a grassroots counter-cultural organisation, challenging inequalities in the cultural sector, the We Make Museums group has been working hard to think about how we might differently shape the GWL museum collection, for the first time with an acquisitions budget.* At the end of last year, following a hugely popular open call to artists, the group worked with the wider community at GWL to select three artists...
