Royal Saloon Dining

On several dates throughout the year, you can dine in style on board our Royal Saloon. The Royal Saloon will be added to the train on the following dates :- Saturday 20th June – Fathers Day Celebrations Saturday 25th July – Summer Saturday Monday 31st August – Bank Holiday Weekend Saturday 26th September – Autumn Gala Weekend The Royal Saloon was built by the Great Eastern Railway in 1898 and has recently been fully restored by our volunteers. The carriage was specifically built for Princess Alexandra, wife of the future King Edward VII. We will be serving refreshments throughout the day. In the morning we will be serving Coffee & Cake. At lunchtime we will be serving a Ploughman’s Lunch with a beer or a glass of white wine (non alcoholic alternative also available). In the afternoon we will be serving Alison’s Cream Tea or Afternoon Tea. For an extra touch of luxury you can also add a glass of prosecco. The ticket price includes entrance to our wonderful museum, cafe, shop, the supplement to travel in the Royal Saloon and unlimited travel in standard class accommodation on all other trains thorough out the day.

This August, our friends at the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust will again be running a heritage shuttle bus service between our site in Preston’s Docklands, to their workshop which houses around 40 vehicles dating from 1930 to 2004, and meet some of their volunteers. Meanwhile at Preston Riverside, your tickets include entrance to our wonderful museum and all day travel on the trains. We have a gift shop and a café serving drinks and light refreshments. The Gruffalo & Child Visits

Come and meet The Gruffalo & The Gruffalo’s Child at intervals on Sunday 16th August throughout the day at Ribble Steam Railway! Begin your journey at Ribble Steam Railway & Museum, where you will experience a steam train journey through the former Preston Docks which crosses the Ribble Estuary. The journey travels along the docks, pauses at the end momentarily before setting back to the middle of the railway line where the locomotive will uncouple and run around to the other end. Be sure to look at the view as you cross the swing bridge over the harbour entrance. You will be on the train approximately 35 minutes with the remainder of your visit available to meet The Gruffalo & Gruffalo’s Child plus explore the museum, it’s exhibits and children’s play area. Every child will receive a complimentary storybook, activity sheet, crayon, biscuit and juice to enjoy during the journey. When you return to the museum, The Gruffalo & The Gruffalo’s Child will be waiting to meet families, wave hello and pose for photos, so don’t forget your camera! Your visit includes entry to the museum so be sure to look around the engine displays and museum. In the afternoon we will be serving Alison’s Cream Tea. The ticket price includes entrance to our wonderful museum, cafe, shop, the supplement to dine in the Royal Saloon and unlimited travel in standard class accommodation on all other trains thorough out the day. As this is the Saturday of our Autumn Gala there will an intensive service with lots of engines in steam. We also have a gift shop selling railway themed souvenirs and a tea room serving drinks & light refreshments. 11.00am and 12 noon – Morning Coffee and Cake Coffee & Cake in the Royal Saloon Join us for a static dining experience of coffee and cake in the Royal saloon.
