Spring Sunshine Railbus Tours of the Docks

Our 1950’s Diesel Railbus will be operating our passenger service on 18th April. Spring Steam on the Docks - Featuring Borrows No.48 "The King"

This April sees the first solo outing of Borrows No.48 “The King” – The locomotive, turning 120 years young in 2026 was built locally in St Helens, and due to it’s diminutive size, doesn’t regularly feature on our passenger services. Royal Saloon Dining

On several dates throughout the year, you can dine in style on board our Royal Saloon The Royal Saloon will be added to the train on the following dates :- Monday 6th April – Easter Monday Monday 25th May – Bank Holiday Monday Saturday 20th June – Fathers Day Celebrations Saturday 25th July – Summer Saturday Monday 31st August – Bank Holiday Weekend Saturday 26th September – Autumn Gala Weekend The Royal Saloon was built by the Great Eastern Railway in 1898 and has recently been fully restored by our volunteers. The carriage was specifically built for Princess Alexandra, wife of the future King Edward VII. We will be serving refreshments throughout the day. In the morning we will be seving At lunchtime we will be serving a Ploughman’s Lunch with a beer or a glass of white wine (non alcoholic alternative also available).  In the afternoon we will be serving Alison’s Cream Tea or Afternoon Tea. For an extra touch of luxury you can  also add a glass of prosecco. The ticket price includes entrance to our wonderful museum, cafe, shop, the supplement to travel in the Royal Saloon and unlimited travel in standard class accommodation on all other trains thorough out the day.

Vintage Transport Experience with Trains AND Buses

This August, our friends at the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust will again be running a heritage shuttle bus service between our site in Preston’s Docklands, to their workshop which houses around 40 vehicles dating from 1930 to 2004, and meet some of their volunteers. Meanwhile at Preston Riverside, your tickets include entrance to our wonderful museum and all day travel on the trains. We have a gift shop and a café serving drinks and light refreshments. Spring Steam Gala

Come and join us for our 2026 Spring Steam Gala. Visit our fabulous museum then take a trip on one of the many steam trains running each day. Our Tea Room will also be open for drinks and light refreshments. A varied timetable will be in operation throughout the day, which should feature our home fleet. There’s even a new Fish & Chip Service to complete the day (see below) The event will hopefully see the return of Hunslet 3155 “Walkden” return to service for the first time in a number of years Locomotives expected to be in service : Furness Railway No.20 Borrows No.48 “The King” Peckett 1935 “Hornet” Hunslet 3155 “Walkden” Timetable will be published closer to the event Tickets are all-day rover tickets.
