Christmas Sparkle in Fused Glass Christmas Decorations

Join our festive fused glass workshop and create your own beautiful Christmas decorations! Enjoy a fun, creative day making unique pieces for your tree and home while getting into the Christmas spirit. Plan of the Day: We will start with a brief talk and introduction to fused glass and the range of materials available. We will look at the different types of glass fusion and how the material can be used to create different types of designs. There will be lots of materials available and you will be encouraged to play and create your own unique designs. After our introduction you will chose the projects you wish to work on. You can choose from a Christmas tree or an s curved Christmas panel, or a tealight holder/bowl. You will learn how to cut and break glass safely to create your design, using a range of colours, with the help and guidance from the expert. Your second project of the day will be to create up to 3 small tree decorations. You will have a choice of materials and a range of designs to inspire you as you create your own personal pieces. Jazz will then take your designs for firing, and your finished decorations will be posted to you within approximately three weeks—in time to enjoy in the build up to Christmas! Tutor: Jazz graduated as a BA Hons Designer Maker from the University of Brighton, specialising in glass. For many years she taught design and crafts to children and now she teaches glass techniques to adults.

Monthly Mornings: How to Choose and Maintain Your Garden Tools

Blunt Secateurs? Learn to clean and sharpen your own pair. Well chosen tools, like a good pair of secateurs, should last a lifetime, if you know what to buy and how to look after them. Bring along your own secateurs and Jenny will guide you through cleaning and sharpening your own pair. There are so many different garden tools to choose from but how do you pick the right one? The wrong tool can make a job hard to do and at worst cause injury to you and your plants! Which tools are worth investing in and which tool are likely to remain unused. What can we do to extend the life of our tools and how can we keep our blades sharp? In this gardening workshop, we will look at what are the essential tools every gardener should have to hand and introduce some lesser-known tools that can make garden tasks easier to perform and less likely to cause joint strain. We will also look at how to extend the life of our tools and keep the blade of our snippers nice and sharp. You Will Learn: -Why spades are not all the same -How a selection of different tools can make light work of weeding. -How to choose the right cutting tool for the job. -How to preserve the life of your tools. -How to clean & sharpen your own pair of secateurs The Venue: Our very own studio space is set within the grounds of Old Barn Garden Centre, Dial Post, South of Horsham.

How To: Turn Garden Waste into Compost

Join us on the first Friday morning of the month for hand’s-on, informative Gardening Workshops in our Studio at Old Barn Garden Centre. Join us and discover how to turn your kitchen and garden waste into nutrient-rich mulch for your garden. We’ll break down the science of the nitrogen-to-carbon ratio plus, we’ll guide you through getting started with hot composting, wormeries, and the traditional garden heap. Be part of nature’s cycle and give your garden a healthy boost. You will learn: why garden compost is so brilliant for your borders the difference between hot composting, the traditional compost heap, and wormeries about the carbon to nitrogen ratio and why it is important how to create a working compost heap the benefits of hot composting and how to get started wormeries how to resolve common compositing problems The Venue: Our very own studio space is set within the grounds of Old Barn Garden Centre, Dial Post, South of Horsham. Our dedicated space for courses, is a light airy and spacious place to learn. The Group: Jenny teaches in small groups (max 10) which ensures everyone gets the opportunity to practice, and time to ask questions.

Monthly Mornings: How to Grow Strong, Healthy Plants from Seed

Join us on the first Friday morning of the month for fun, informative Gardening Workshops in our Studio at Old Barn Garden Centre. Growing your own plants from seed is an excellent way to increase your plant stock, and a vital skill for vegetable growers. Most seeds are easy to propagate, but good technique will improve success and keep the workload manageable. In this morning workshop we will have a go at sowing a variety of seed types, practise pricking out, and learn lots of tricks and tips to produce sturdy young plants. You will learn about: Choosing seeds Germination requirements Seed compost, vermiculite and perlite How to sow large, medium and small seeds Pricking out seedlings Seedling care Hardening off and planting out The Venue: Our very own studio space is set within the grounds of Old Barn Garden Centre, Dial Post, South of Horsham.
