23 July Blue - Joni Mitchell Sung by Mae Karthauser

“I was utterly blown away… an absolute emotional rollercoaster..magical” Amy “In all my years I have never cried at a gig. I was crying on the first song” Martin Songwriter Mae Karthauser is lending her voice to a breathtaking new live performance: a heart wrenching tribute to Joni Mitchell’s seminal album Blue. Mae will be performing the entire Blue album, plus nine other Joni favourites from her early songwriting era. Mae, who has performed at Glastonbury Festival, on prime-time BBC1 and on BBC Radio 3 and Radio 6, identified Joni Mitchell as the first and most influential songwriter she discovered as a teenager, and was called to delve into recreating the album as a live performance when approached by friend and guitarist Rowland O’Connor at the end of a gig back in 2025. “Who’s album would you most like to recreate?” he asked. Unprompted, they both came up with the same answer. “Joni Mitchell’s songs feel like dreams, like journeys off somewhere deep and familiar” says Mae. “It’s great to go beyond memorising and really into the magic, the poetry and the stunning emotional landscapes Joni is able to conjure with her songwriting” Breathing new life into the 1971 classic, Mae’s silken and athletic vocals soar nimbly over Joni’s melodies, and paired with her expressive piano playing she brings a raw and living presence to these timeless songs.

10 September- Film Jo in the Water + Q&A with Director Pip Piper and Jo Bateman

Jo in the Water follows a passionate sea swimmer turned reluctant activist, Exmouth-based Jo Bateman, as she takes on one of the UK’s biggest water companies in a David-and-Goliath battle to protect our waters from devastating sewage pollution. In the wake of Channel 4’s recent hard-hitting docu-drama which has left many people both angry and frustrated, Jo in the Water picks up the baton from Dirty Business and seeks out joy and inspiration amongst the many amazing individuals fighting to make a difference. As Jo’s courage helps ignite a growing movement, this film exposes the dire state of our water system and asks: who will stand up for our right to swim in clean natural waters, for the species and communities that rely upon them? Jo in the Water is a feature-length documentary made by award-winning filmmakers with a strong track record of bringing powerful stories to our cinema screens. It is not just about water pollution; it is about connection—to nature, to our own sense of place, and to our responsibility for the world around us. Featuring Jo Bateman, Jeremy Vine, Jim Murray MBE and Chris Packham. “Jo inspires people… they realise that together we have a greater strength. In a shoal like this we become mighty.” Chris Packham, Wildlife TV presenter & conservationist “As someone deeply entrenched in the fight to save our waters from pollution I’m delighted to be part of this important documentary.

October 9 : Dale Storr - The Sounds of New Orleans

“A very, very fine piano player indeed” – Paul Jones, BBC Radio 2 “Dale is the best New Orleans player I’ve ever heard” –Richard Hawley Described by Jazz Journal magazine as the ‘piano man’s piano man…’ and ‘a national treasure’, Dale Storr’s musical journey has now brought him recognition as one of the UK’s leading exponents of New Orleans piano. Immersed in the styles of heroes like Dr John, James Booker, Professor Longhair, Allen Toussaint, Fats Domino and Huey ‘Piano’Smith, he established himself in his early career as a highly sought after pianist backing many top blues stars from the UK and America. But keen to follow his true passion, Dale went solo in 2008 with his now acclaimed ‘Sounds of New Orleans’ show and has not looked back since. In 2023 he opened the Buxton International Jazz Festival, his music has been played on BBC Radio 2 (Cerys Matthews, Paul Jones), BBC Radio 6 (Cerys Matthews) and BBC Radio 3 (Jazz Record Requests) and he has released three solo albums in the last decade. Dale’s latest show is a celebration of the music of New Orleans piano legends Dr John and James Carroll Booker, two of Dales biggest musical influences. Incorporating piano mastery and mesmerising storytelling, he draws in the audience with the rich history behind the music and the captivating, sometimes risqué stories of his much-loved piano heroes. “Incredible…Never seen anybody play like that…only James Booker”–British Blues legend Victor Brox “If there is a better New...
