Scarborough 400: Stitch Your Story

Be a Part of Scarborough’s History! Join our Scarborough 400 Community Quilt Project. Help create a beautiful community wall hanging for Beeforth’s Hive. Join local sewing teacher Millie Robinson to celebrate 400 years of our town. Using Free-Motion Embroidery (drawing with thread), you will stitch a postcard panel of your favourite seaside memory: from the Castle to beach huts, South Cliff clock tower to dolphins… • When: Mondays 27 July, 3 August, or 10 August I 1pm — 4pm • Where: Beeforth’s Hive, South Cliff Gardens • Skills: Absolutely no experience needed. Machines and all upcycled fabrics provided! Age 10+ (under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. Love Parks with Everyone Active

It’s a summer of sport with the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow this month. Our friends from Everyone Active will be helping us celebrate this and Love Parks week with a fun, free, kids obstacle course in the Shuttleworth Gardens. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Sorry only service dogs allowed in this garden.

Hidden Messages in Nature: A Love Parks Creative Workshop

This workshop explores Scarborough’s beautiful South Cliff Gardens through a mix of observation and simple making, as part of Love Parks Week. Participants begin with a short walk, noticing colour, shape, and detail in the surrounding space, before creating paper flowers inspired by what they have seen. The session also introduces the idea that flowers can carry meaning, giving people a way to connect what they make with a feeling or idea. Participants can take inspiration from traditional flowers such as mignonette, stock, lupin, pink, pansy, and alyssum—plants that have long been part of Scarborough’s gardens—or create their own designs using colour and shape to express a feeling, memory, or message. The workshop also draws on European paper flower-making traditions, including Polish decorative styles, where paper is shaped, layered, and structured to create more detailed and expressive forms. Participants can keep their designs simple or develop more intricate pieces, depending on their interest and confidence. This workshop is most suitable for adults and older children, 12+ (all under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult). Coffee Morning - Beeforth's Hive

Join us for a brew with a view! Our Friends group host their monthly drop in Coffee Morning at Beeforth’s Hive on the first Tuesday of every month. The Open House offers free, friendly sharing of poems and poetic chat and news every month in informal and relaxed surroundings. Bring a poem or two of your own or ones you love, perform them on the fabuloso sound system or get one of the organisers to perform them for you; network with poetic friends; or just come to listen in to the incredible stimulus and variety this event always provides.
