Celebrating Shakespeare: To Be Or Not To Be – One Man Play

Actor and Director, Ethan Taylor, of This is My Theatre Company, brings to life Shakespeare’s legacy through a new entertaining and informative one-man play. The year is 1621. Five years after the playwright’s death and plans are afoot to collect his works in the first folio of ‘Mr William Shakespeare’s Comedies, Histories & Tragedies’. Ethan plays real-life Shakespeare super-fan, Isaac Jaggard, of Jaggard & Son Printers and Publishers, wrestling with the prospect of immortalising the Bard’s plays in print whilst honouring his hero’s brilliance.  Inspired by Janet Pressley’s talk ‘How Shakespeare Happened’. U3A Monthly Meeting – Keep Your Hat On

“Keep your hat on” – A look at hats through the ages A presentation by Dr Janet Pennington We wear hats to keep our heads warm, but there are many other reasons for so doing. This colourful talk looks at hats in the past and sees how they have changed, whether for warmth, indications of status, or fashion. If you have ever wondered how hats were made, this talk will explain it. We will see some hat shops of the past. I will also bring along some of my own hats to wear and display. Celebrating Shakespeare: Love and Excess in Romeo and Juliet

Professors Matt Dimmock and Andrew Hadfield from Sussex University will discuss how the play represents love and marriage, and that dizzying speed of youthful experience. They will reflect on how well Shakespeare knew Italy and its customs, and how much the play was designed to show off the author’s literary prowess and ambitions. Celebrating Shakespeare: Shakespeare Night Ceilidh Revels

A night of celebration and merrymaking remembering the great Bard’s birthday. A ceilidh of country and courtly dances with a lively Ceilidh band and caller. Delicious rustic ploughman’s victuals and a tot of mead included. Come dressed for the occasion, if you so desire! Everyone welcome. A night of delight and one for the diary. Bar available. The talented Bowler Crab Theatre Company brings us Shakespeare’s timeless tale of two young lovers from feuding families: a story of love at first sight, secret vows, violent hatred and fateful misunderstandings leading to heart-breaking tragedy. Bowler Crab have combined the best elements from previous tours for this 2026 production. There will be an interval where refreshments are available.
