Unfurling the Creative – Taster Session

An introduction to the restorative and healing power of creative practice. Feel creative but a little stuck or uninspired? Long for more space, calm, or meaning in your week? Believe you’re “not creative” but are curious to explore? This session is run by Louise Durham, Occupational Therapist and glass artist. We’ll explore simple, accessible creative exercises designed to spark playfulness, curiosity, and joy. What to Expect: Each session is built around simple, accessible creative practices — cutting and sticking, tearing and layering, mark-making and printing. Sounds childish? That’s entirely the point. This isn’t about technique or producing impressive work. It’s about creating alongside others without judgement or pressure to get it right. Participants must be at least 16 years old to attend this event. £30. This 2 hr session Includes all materials. Introduction to Painting in Acrylics @Skyway Gallery

Do you want to try your hand at being creative but think you don’t know where to start? This is a fun, safe introduction to Painting in Acrylics. Whether you’ve always wanted to give painting a go or you just fancy trying something creative for fun, our Painting in Acrylics taster session is the perfect place to start. Get stuck into bold colours, experiment with brushes and textures and enjoy the freedom of creating your own artwork in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. These fun, hands-on sessions are all about having a go and learning new techniques. You’ll discover that art is for everyone — no experience needed. With plenty of guidance and encouragement along the way by an experieced artist and art teacher, you’ll learn the basics of acrylic painting while enjoying a creative break from the everyday. What’s Included: All materials are provided… In addition to creating some art, you’ll also get to take away an Acrylic painting set that contains all you need to continue experimenting and having fun. So just come along and see where your imagination takes you. U3A Monthly Meeting – Antarctica: A Journey to the Last Great Wilderness

Antarctica: A Journey to the Last Great Wilderness A presentation by David Gill David will explain the unique geography and landscapes of Antarctica and the diverse wildlife and their role in the Antarctic ecosystem. You will gain insights into the challenges posed by the rough waters of the Drake Passage for travellers and learn about daily life onboard an expedition ship and, adventurous excursions off board. David will also explain the role of citizen science projects in the collection of primary data. David will explain the environmental threats facing Antarctica due to climate change and tourism impact, and how current scientific efforts and the Antarctic Treaty in preserving this fragile ecosystem. Mike Hatchard’s Jazz Breakfast

Mike returns from playing Beethoven in the Edinburgh festival in August, with a line-up of wonderful jazz musicians, to present another musical and entertaining Sunday morning treat in September. Tickets available now. Details of musicians to follow. Always good musicians, good humour and friendly atmosphere.
