Mark Twain In Person

Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born in 1835 in Florida, Missouri. He moved to Hannibal when he was four years old and grew up on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River. Using his chosen penname, Mark Twain, he became one of the most influential writers of all time and was often called the father of American literature with such classical works such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The play is conceived by Ken O’Hara, showing Mark Twain during one of his lecturing tours of the USA around the year 1900, using Twain’s own material. Ken transforms himself into the character of Twain with great aplomb, donning the famous white suit, with cigar and whisky in hand, and has a remarkable resemblance to the man. Get ready to be entertained by Twain’s boyhood memories, his experience of the American Civil War, and many other stories from his life, including a strange-looking dog, his observations on humanity and his time as a River Boat pilot on the Mississippi. The play contains Twain’s one-liners and witticisms with which he has become celebrated. Please be aware there is use of a racial epithet in the context of Twain’s writing. The play is directed by Isi Nimmo.

Celtic Da’s

The Hilarious new play from Phil Differ featuring Bruce Morton and Raymond Mearns Pat and Danny are two Celtic supporting childhood pals now in their early seventies, older men who view life through a green and white prism. They live in the past, they resent everyone under thirty and manage to find negatives in everything their team achieves. They are what’s disparagingly known as Celtic Da’s. A recent health scare results in Pat experiencing a lapse in his football fanaticism and a stark re-evaluation of a lifetime spent as a Celtic fan. A confused Danny cannot understand his pal’s sudden mood swing and gradually their long-standing match day routine becomes the backdrop to a darkly comedic discourse where they both come to question their Celtic-mindedness, their politics, their hopes, dreams, fears, values and above all else, their evolution from young and gallus into Celtic Da’s.

Doors Open Day 2026

Scotland’s oldest working theatre, the Theatre Royal Dumfries opened in 1792. It has a long and rich history, undergoing several changes in its design and purpose, including roller rink and cinema. It was saved from demolition in 1959 by the Guild of Players, becoming the home of Dumfries’s amateur dramatic club. Go behind the scenes at the theatre and meet the Guild of Players. Members will be here to welcome visitors and share their experiences of the many different aspects of putting on a show. Pop along from 10am-4pm for Doors Open Day at the Theatre Royal Dumfries. Backstage tours will be available at 10.30am, 12 noon, and 1.30pm. Book tours in advance to guarantee a space.

Fred MacAulay - Good Evening

For reasons outwith his control, Fred had to cancel his 2025 Edinburgh Fringe shows and his Autumn Tour - “Fred MacAulay: No podcast - LIVE”. Now, thankfully, due to reasons completely within his control, he is now preparing to hit the road in 2026 with the 2025 show repackaged and updated and simply called “GOOD EVENING!”. So what happened? Simply put: Fred suffered a freak accident and then an unrelated prostate cancer diagnosis. Is there humour in either of these? In the words of a famous Scotland footballer “Maybes Aye, Maybes Naw”. Now in the fourth decade of his comedy career, Fred MacAulay still loves being on stage doing what he does best ...... quite simply it's STAND-UP and his appetite for performing is as strong as it was all those years ago when he took a massive side-ways step from a career as an Accountant and Company Secretary into the world of entertainment. A career which has taken him all over the world (apart from South America) (and some other continents) where he has worked in television and radio. But it’s always been and always will be as a stand-up that Fred wants to be remembered. It's because of stand-up that he’s been asked to do all the 'celebrity' things that he’s done. He might talk about some of them, but he's more likely to talk about what is current - having been a guest on the famous Radio 4 News Quiz show for almost 18 years he has some previous in this respect.
