Liverpool Arab Arts Festival presents the UK premiere performance of the hugely anticipated second album from Tamsin Elliott (UK) and Tarek Elazhary (Egypt). Tamsin and Tarek explore the intriguing parallels and idiosyncrasies of Egyptian Maqam and English folk traditions in a captivating fusion of songs, tunes and textures, finding commonality, fostering cross-cultural connection and helping heal the scars of a colonial past through meaningful and conscious collaboration. For this Liverpool premiere, the music will be performed by a septet – with Tamsin and Tarek joined by Rowan Elliott to form their trio, and accompanied by the Ensemble of St Lukes – founded 34 years ago by members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Tamsin Elliott is a Bristol-based multi-instrumentalist, composer and filmmaker working primarily with English folk traditions, equally adept on fiddle, lever harp, and microtonal accordion. Alongside solo projects, she leads the genre-crossing ensembles Solana and Hedera, and collaborates widely across folk and experimental music contexts. Tarek Elazhary is an Egyptian composer, educator and oud player whose work centres on Arab musical traditions. Through performance, teaching and composition, he explores how these traditions can be sustained and developed in contemporary settings. He is the founder and leader of the ensemble Dokkan.

As an affinity space for our creative Black and Global Majority community, I connected and networked as well. A special treat and I highly recommended" "First yoga session, that was held at the Music Room in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic was very special for multiple reasons. Beforehand, it was apparent from stepping into the door that I was very much welcome in the space, which was a very important thing for me as I have never tried yoga before. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The session itself was really relaxing. It was a stressful time of the year for me as I was preparing for auditions at the time. Taking part in the yoga session relaxed my mind and released a lot of the tension that I was holding in my body. The highlight was the masterful display of piano improvisation that was performed throughout the session. I noticed as Andrew was improvising, he was able to feel the energy in the room, of the people taking part and the yoga instructor.

My Darling Clementine: Together Apart @ Music Room

My Darling Clementine (Michael Weston King & Lou Dalgleish) close out the year with a special show on Thursday 10th December, returning to the Liverpool Philharmonic Music Room with their signature blend of classic country duets, richly drawn storytelling, and beautifully observed songs of love, loss and longing. Following their acclaimed previous appearances, this new date offers something different. They will play 2 one hour sets: The first a deep dive into the back catalogue, featuring My Darling Clementine classics, fan favourites, and some lesser heard album cuts. The second set will shine a spotlight on their individual voices. With both releasing solo albums this year, Lou and Michael will present a number of these new songs, accompanied by a full band. Michael’s album Nothing Can Hurt Me Anymore, released in April, has received universal praise and is being widely regarded as his finest ever work. Lou’s album will be released in the Autumn and this show affords fans the chance to hear some of her new songs for the very first time. Both these solo albums have been born out of personal tragedy and grief, and as a way to process an unimaginable loss. Their ability to move seamlessly from heartbreak to hope, from sharp storytelling to lush harmony, makes every performance feel like a conversation set to music. The unmistakable chemistry between King & Dalgleish has made My Darling Clementine one of the most compelling duos on the Americana scene.
