Choral Eucharist for the Ascension

The Ascension is a feast celebrated by all the Christian Churches. It falls on the fortieth day after Easter Sunday. With his Ascension into heaven, the presence of the “historical Christ” comes to an end, and the presence of the Body of Christ, the Church, is inaugurated. Choral Eucharist will be followed by a reception in the Cynthia Poulton Hall.

A Peal on the Cathedral Bells

St Peter’s Cathedral has a renowned ring of 8 bells, the second heaviest in the world and celebrated for their glorious tone. The bellringers will attempt a Peal, a ring of at least 5,000 changes, taking around 4 hours to complete. Enjoy a walk in the nearby gardens and enjoy this magnificent sound.

Haydn’s Seven Last Words

Joseph Haydn’s string quartet The Seven Last Words from the Cross was specially commissioned for performance on Good Friday at a church in Spain, in 1786.
