Written by Alan Bennett. As World War I rages on, the controversial Dr. Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes) takes over a British choral Society in Ramsden, Yorkshire that’s lost most of its men to the army. Athenæum Open Mic Night

We’re doing something new at the Ath this summer! The Athenæum is opening the mic, and we mean it quite literally! Music, poetry, stand-up, spoken word, a song you wrote last Tuesday: if you want to share it, there’s a stage waiting for you. If you’d rather just listen with a drink in hand, we’ve got you covered too. Open Mic Night is exactly what it sounds like: an open stage, a warm crowd, and no agenda beyond a good evening. Whether you’ve been polishing a set for months or you’ve got a poem scribbled on your phone that you’ve never read aloud, this is the night for it. Music, comedy, poetry, storytelling; the mic is genuinely open. Not a performer? Come anyway. The bar will be stocked, the atmosphere will be relaxed, and there’s something quietly brilliant about being in a room when someone shares something for the very first time. Please note that this event is strictly 18+ There is no entrance fee for this event. – Just come along and enjoy the fun!

The Warminster Comedy Club (18+)

Warminster Comedy Club returns to the Athenæum this August with another fantastic night of live stand-up, headlined by the brilliant Dominic Holland. Dominic Holland is one of the UK’s most respected comedians and writers, known for his intelligent, self-deprecating humour and wonderfully sharp storytelling. Over the years he has appeared on numerous TV and radio programmes including Have I Got News For You, The Royal Variety Performance, and The Brian Conley Show, and has also enjoyed a long-running career on BBC Radio 4. As well as his stand-up, Dominic is a successful author and newspaper columnist, with his witty and insightful style making him a firm favourite with comedy audiences. Joining him on the bill is the excellent Justin Panks, a fast-rising comedian known for his confident stage presence and punchy, relatable material. With a warm delivery and a knack for finding big laughs in everyday situations, Justin is quickly becoming a name to watch on the UK comedy circuit. This is a mixed-bill comedy night, giving you the full comedy club experience with multiple comedians and a host guiding the evening. The MC for the show will be announced soon, adding another exciting element to the lineup. Expect a relaxed atmosphere, big laughs, and a brilliant night of live stand-up in one of Warminster’s most beautiful venues.
