Book clubs, bingo, and the occasional village fête that's surprisingly well organised — Usworth, High punches well above its weight for local events, and Tyne & Wear's all the better for it. You'll find everything from craft workshops the kids won't stop asking about to open mic nights that are genuinely worth staying up past nine for. The big listings sites have never heard of half these venues, which is their loss and your gain. Men’s Pie Club

Men’s Pie Club It’s not just about the pies. It’s about the guys making the pies. We’re here for a chat just as much as a scran. So, it doesn’t matter if you’re a baking-beginner or a pastry-perfectionist, Men’s Pie Club is where you can come to get stuff off your chest and put something great in your belly. At the weekly clubs you can get stuck in and make your own delicious pie. We even supply all the ingredients and know-how you need, with a Men’s Pie Club organiser always on hand to help – usually our fantastic Lead Pie Men, who keep things ticking over. Sometimes there’s a few of us, sometimes there’s ten of us. But there’s always a warm welcome and a hot stove. So, the only thing you need to bring is a little bit of enthusiasm. After that, it’s all about meeting other guys from your local area, having a laugh, and getting stuck into some tasty pies. Why should I come? Because life isn’t always easy, but making pies is. Getting together for a pie and a chat is the perfect way for us guys to get out of the house and look after our physical and mental health. If we were using fancy terms, we’d say it’s about tackling isolation and improving social connectedness. And it is. But it’s also just about baking pies and making friends. Who runs men’s pie club? Men’s Pie Club is organised by Newcastle-based social enterprise Food Nation, with funding from Movember.
