Awake Mother are a new duo from the south of England. They are keen to share music from the folk tradition, reigniting old favourites and introducing you to new songs and tales from times gone by. Awake Mother are Minnie Birch and Kathleen P, two award winning, critically acclaimed musicians who have joined together to present something new and special in the folk tradition. Minnie Birch has been writing and releasing music for many years. In 2020 she released an album called “You’re not singing anymore” which was a contemporary look at the relationship between football terrace songs and folk music. This work received critical acclaim and was named a Sunday Times Album of the year. She has toured extensively, performed at The Great Escape Festival, been BBC Radio 1s introducing artist of the week, named Buzzfeed’s “one to watch” and supported Joan Armatrading on tour. Kathy Pilkinton is an award winning folk musician. With her trio Said the Maiden, she has performed at many of the countries prestigious folk clubs and festivals including Folk By The Oak, Folkeast, Gate to Southwell, Shepley and Bunkfest. An Evening In The Company of Amy Jeffs

Dr. Amy Jeffs is an author, artist, and medievalist whose work delves deeply into the art and culture of the Middle Ages. She completed her PhD in Art History at the University of Cambridge, where she co-convened a research project on medieval pilgrim souvenirs in collaboration with the British Museum and also worked extensively with the manuscript collection of the British Library. Now based in Somerset, Jeffs brings her scholarship to life through a unique fusion of words and images, illustrating her own books with linocuts, wood engravings, and paper cut-outs. Her debut, Storyland: A New Mythology of Britain, became a Sunday Times bestseller, was shortlisted for Waterstones Book of the Year, and was named a Times Historical Fiction Book of the Year. Her second book, Wild: Tales from Early Medieval Britain, explores ancient conceptions of wilderness through medieval tales of exile, monsters, and the natural world. Applegate Breast Cancer Support Group

Our group meet in the Hunnyhill room at the Riverside Centre, Newport on the first Thursday of every month, 10.00 am – 12.00 pm. Refreshments are available. The group is formed of female patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. The women find support talking amongst themselves to help each other through treatment as well as dealing with the personal and intimate aspects of breast cancer. This can be at any time during the cancer journey; from diagnosis through treatment and afterwards. A different topic of interest is introduced at each meeting to help patients to understand and manage their cancer. Health professionals as well as therapists and other speakers, will help patients to stay active, to have a healthier life, as well as giving them confidence in living with breast cancer.

An evening with the Wight Nature Fund (part of the IW Biosphere Festival)

The evening will begin with an introduction to WNF and its current focus, Mill Copse, a beautiful site just south of Yarmouth and the only land presently under the charity’s care.
