Storytelling service - 2nd and 4th Sunday each month

at St Mary's Church

A relaxed and family friendly service for parents with young children. Based on Godly Play, the service begins with a song in the chancel before one of the children leads us through to our 'special place' for a story (told using wooden figures and simple scenery). The story is followed by a short time for prayer and then 'the feast' which comprises a biscuit and drink for the children. We then go back to the chancel for two more songs (usually noisy with instruments), after which the children have themed craft in our newly restored meeting area. There is a chair lift available for wheelchair users. Adults have tea, coffee and biscuits while their children engage in craft activities craft, although we encourage them to get stuck in as well.

Skills you will learn: Learn to stack, dowel and prepare a pre-made cake ready for decorating. Buttercream Icing for a professional smooth finish. Creating the perfect drip in your choice of colour. Buttercream decorating skills – flowers and swirls. Victoria will show you piping techniques to create different shapes, you choose which to put onto your cake. You’ll leave with a beautifully finished cake – please bring a sturdy bag or box for transport. Swingin’ at the Movies Join Dr Jazz and the Cheshire Cats big band for an evening of movie magic as we head back to the heyday of the Plaza with themes and songs made famous on the silver screen. Including classics from the Cotton Club, James Bond and the Pink Panther, as well as more recent favourites from Austin Powers, When Harry Met Sally and the Incredibles. With two fantastic vocalists there’ll be hits from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald and Judy Garland, bringing back the sounds of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Long Craft Pottery Session 101

The course begins with an introduction to Craft – Hand Made Pottery in the way of an ice breaker to get your hands dirty. Your session continues with more hands on experience using one of the most common methods of making, the Potters Wheel. The workshop will progress according to your individual development and by the end of the period you should have several pieces of hand made ware to be proud of. Additional information on techniques, decorating, finishing, firing, glazing etc will be provided if and when it is of interest or relevant to the student.
