Heritage Open Days in London

Heritage Open Days are catnip for anyone who enjoys a bit of local history, a peek behind the scenes, or a building that is normally closed but suddenly full of volunteers and leaflet tables. We round up the stronger nearby picks without making you rummage through seventeen separate sites.

10 picks around London, from 8 local venues. The map pin is doing actual work here.

11–20 September 2026 Near London

Not every listing gets a golden ticket

We check a frankly silly number of local websites, then keep the Heritage Open Days plans that are nearby, properly described, and worth leaving the house for. No listings so vague you end up wondering whether it is a guided tour, a church hall display, or someone opening a cellar.

Happening 11 September 2026 to 20 September 2026.
Picked for London, not somewhere halfway across the county.
Only Local Gems and Curated venues make the cut, because standards are still a thing.
Listings with proper descriptions get bumped up the list. Three words and a shrug will not do.

at St. Margaret's House

St Margaret's has delivered community activity in our Georgian building on Old Ford Road since the start of the 20th century, having been set up locally in 1889. Join us for tours of our buildings, starting in the beautiful Anson Room, seeing one of the old bedrooms when residents lived here and exploring our Award-winning garden. At the end of the tour, we’ll leave you to enjoy a specially curated exhibition in the Chapel, offering an insight into SMH history over the last 130+ years.
