Get ready to have your mind blown in the most pleasant and invigorating way at COSMIC VISIONS. Calderdale’s very own festival of psychedelia is back! You will experience all manner of mind expanding music from the gentle and meditative to the awe inspiring and bone quaking. This is a payf event. The following acts are taking part : MIDNIGHT AURUM is an experimental guitarist creating beautiful miniature compositions for solo guitar taking inspiration from classical, jazz, blues, psychedelia, folk culture and the Fae. https://midnightaurum.bandcamp.com/ SUGAR CREASE are a six-piece band with a unique energy and playful spirit, mixing a vibrant and eclectic blend of musical influences into their brand of joyously surrealist pop. Chapel Allerton Arts Festival : Rush Hour Jazz - Raquel Alvaro with James Boyes

Raquel Álvaro is a Portuguese singer from Lisbon who learned her musical craft in her home city before coming to Leeds to study at the Leeds Conservatoire. While a student, she threw herself into the local jazz and world music scenes in the city and after she graduated, decided to remain in Leeds. Raquel leads from the front performing compositions by Tom Jobim/Jorge Ben/Joao Gilberto from the great Brazilian music songbook and taking inspiration from the great Brazilian female singers – Elis Regina/Elza Soares/Joyce/Flora Purim. Expect a mix of smooth and sultry bossa nova mixed with some fiery samba jazz. She’ll be supported by Leeds tenor sax player James Boyes who, rumour had it played at Ronnie Scott’s plus Prince Harry’s birthday party! Chapel Allerton Arts Festival : Jazz Leeds - Wild Flower Quintet: Celebrating 60 Years of Wayne Shorter

Wild Flower Quintet celebrates the 60th anniversary of Wayne Shorter’s classic recordings for Blue Note Records with an all-star line-up. Led by saxophonist Matt Anderson, the group plays original music inspired by Shorter’s sound and approach, alongside new arrangements of both his classic and lesser-known compositions. Their 2015 album Wild Flower was described by Selwyn Harris in Jazzwise as “Their own unique stamp on Shorter’s very personal repertoire… of a quality that resonates with its inspirational source… Enjoyably un-pretentious.” Born in the North Yorkshire Moors, the son of a music teacher, saxophonist and Dankworth Prize-winning composer Matt Anderson has lived in London since 2015. Since his debut with Wild Flower, he has made three further albums with the Matt Anderson Quartet, with the latest Live at Leeds Jazz Festival released in 2024 to glowing reviews, including four stars in Jazzwise, and airplay on BBC Radio 3. Becoming part of the fertile jazz scene in the capital, Anderson has performed with artists/bands such as the Gareth Lockrane Big Band, Jamie Doe’s The Magic Lantern and Ivo Neame. Also in the front line is trumpeter Klara Devlin, who is fast emerging as one of the leading players of the new generation, appearing in the 2024 BBC Young Jazz Musician final and fronting her own band at venues across London.
