Free making workshop in the Artist's Garden Claire Appleby Wed, 08/07/2026 - 16:48 Saw, drill and paint your own wooden sculpture with artist Alice Wilson. 29 July 2026 We are excited to share details of an upcoming free workshop at The Artist's Garden for Westminster residents and students aged 13 to 18 and we would love you to join us. On Tuesday 28 July, 10am to 1pm, artist Alice Wilson will be leading a hands-on wood sculpture session at theCOLAB. You will saw, drill and paint your own piece, then combine it with your group to build one large collaborative assemblage - inspired by SAVOY, a sculpture that lives at the heart of the garden.Alice Wilson is a sculptor whose work uses the materials of construction, such as timber, paint and nails, not to build but to ask questions about home, place and belonging. SAVOY is a dense vertical forest of brightly coloured construction timbers with schematic outlines of dwellings thrust aloft at their tips. A work that dissolves material and architectural hierarchies, leaving plentiful evidence of each process as part of the meaning. In this workshop you will work with the same instincts: cutting, drilling and assembling timber into forms that start as individual pieces and finish as one collective assemblage.No experience needed.

Renewal of Additional HMO Licensing Scheme in Westminster Charlie Hawken Wed, 22/04/2026 - 15:02 Westminster City Council has confirmed the renewal of its additional licensing scheme for Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs). The renewed scheme will come into force on 31 August 2026 and will run for five years.The designation applies across the whole of the City of Westminster and requires certain shared houses or flats to be licensed. This includes properties where three or more people from two or more households share basic amenities such as a kitchen or bathroom. Property types covered include flat shares, bedsits, and some converted flats that are not subject to mandatory HMO licensing.The additional licensing scheme forms part of the council’s statutory housing enforcement framework and is intended to support compliance with legal standards for the management and condition of HMOs.Additional HMO licensing was first introduced in Westminster in 2021. It is estimated that more than 56,000 homes, representing approximately 43 per cent of all residential accommodation in Westminster, are in the private rented sector.Under the renewed designation, landlords and managing agents of applicable HMOs must hold a valid licence or submit a complete licence application before the scheme comes into effect.Licences granted under the previous additional licensing scheme will remain valid until their expiry date, unless otherwise varied or revoked.Failure to license a property where...
