Settle Victoria Hall is a Grade II-listed working Victorian Music Hall on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Opened in 1853, it now hosts live music, cinema, theatre and entertainment alongside community events, cafés, classes and markets. The hall is run as an independent charity and social business, supported by a small team, trustees and volunteers, so a visit helps keep a long-running local venue active.

It has been going strong since 1853. That is a very impressive encore.

Le Vent du Nord

Le Vent du Nord

Le Vent du Nord have become incomparable ambassadors of Canada’s Francophone culture and a major creative force within Québec’s progressive folk music scene. Since forming in 2002, they have experienced a meteoric rise that continues to amaze. To date, the band have performed over 2,400 shows across four continents, released 13 albums and received numerous prestigious international awards including Artists of the year at Folk Alliance International & Canadian Folk Music Awards, two JUNO Awards, a BABELMED/Mundial Montréal Prix Pont Transatlantique and a Songlines Music Awards: this recognition was particularly important for the group, as it made them the first French-speaking artists to win in the Americas category. This was highlighted during a gala evening at the Barbican in London (march 2024), where they performed alongside world music artists such as Salif Keita.

The Wedding Present have had eighteen UK Top 40 hit singles… not bad for a band that has, from its inception, stubbornly refused to play the record industry’s game. It all started in 1985 when David Lewis Gedge boarded a National Express coach in London with 500 records packed into a pair of his mother’s suitcases and, in this fashion, delivered the band’s debut single Go Out And Get 'Em, Boy! to a distribution company in Yorkshire. That pioneering spirit has been at the core of the band’s philosophy ever since. From George Best, “an unmitigated delight” [NME], the first full-length release on their own Reception Records onwards, the band has charted an appealing, if often eccentric, course of its very own.

Illyria: The Pirates of Penzance

Frederick, accidentally apprenticed to Pirates as a child, is indentured to the Pirate King until his 21st birthday. On the day he reaches 21 he leaves the ship, announcing that he now intends to dedicate his life to the Pirates’ destruction. The Pirate King checks the contract’s small print – and realises that as Frederick’s birthday is 29th February on a leap year he has only had four birthdays and is actually indentured for another 63 years. With only the Penzance constabulary to protect him, will Frederick be forced to serve the pirates until he is 84? And will his sweetheart, Mabel, wait for him that long? Performed by a six-strong cast of actor/singers with fully orchestrated accompaniment, The Pirates of Penzance boasts such gloriously memorable songs as “To be a Pirate King!”; “Modern Major General” and “A Policeman’s Lot is Not a Happy One”. With razor sharp satire and glittering wit, it remains as fresh as if it had been written today.
