National Youth Choir (9-15 Years) - Paper Boats

National Youth Choir (9-15 Years) return to Warwick Arts Centre for a characteristically showstopping performance, alongside paper artist Coco Sato. Paper boats begin as simple childhood creations: fragile objects folded from a single sheet. Though delicate, they signify imagination, innocence, hope, and the quiet courage of sending a wish across unknown waters.  Paper Boats by Jake Runestad forms the musical centrepiece of the performance, along with music written by Jim Papoulis, Sarah Quartel, Stephen Sondheim and Sara Bareilles.  During the performance, you’ll get to see Coco’s paper creations come to life while she folds live on stage - and you’ll even get to join in by making your own paper boat before the show.  Join us for a truly unique concert experience from 400 of the most exciting young voices in the UK!

Grimethorpe Colliery Band in Concert

Formed in 1917, Grimethorpe Colliery Band is a British institution. The band’s contest successes include 16 Brass In Concert Championship titles, 11 times Yorkshire Regional Champions, two English Nationals victories, four British Opens and four times National Champion Brass Band of Great Britain.Noted concert performances include those at the World Cup, BAFTAs, BBC Proms, Eurovision and 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, together with a wealth of national and international television / radio appearances and professional recordings. The band has two gold discs, as well as a BAFTA nomination for the global hit movie Brassed Off.The Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall, Barbican, Westminster Abbey, European Parliament, Sydney Opera House and more, have all played host to Grimethorpe. With tours to Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, and concerts and festival appearances throughout Europe, the band’s performance reputation remains unsurpassed.In 2024 along with delivering a series of typical ‘Grimethorpe’ concerts to sellout theatres nationally, the band was honoured to be asked to perform with Coldplay as part of the headline set at the Glastonbury Festival appearing in front of 125,000 people live and to a TV audience in excess of 25M.Whilst continuing to delight audiences across the globe, Grimethorpe invest in its local community in Grimethorpe, Barnsley and South Yorkshire, particularly through its youth initiatives and community performances locally and on a national scale.

Inspired by the life of Nina Simone, and featuring many of her most iconic songs performed live.Apphia Campbell’s acclaimed play follows a successful singer and civil rights activist as she seeks redemption after the untimely death of her father. She reflects on the journey that took her from a young piano prodigy destined for a life in the service of the church, to a renowned jazz vocalist at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement.The show has toured the UK and Australia to standing ovations and played sell-out seasons in Shanghai, New York, Edinburgh and the West End of London.

John Smith

As he marks his 20th anniversary in music, John’s new release Gatherings celebrates, revisits, and reimagines songs from his first three albums, with brand new interpretations of his own and audience favourites from over 2,000 live shows.Pioneering singer, songwriter and guitarist John Smith has been at the forefront of British folk and roots music for twenty years. He has amassed over 125 million Spotify streams and played his songs all over the world. He cut his teeth opening for the late, great John Martyn, and has since worked with a host of artists including Sarah Jarosz, the Milk Carton Kids, Patty Griffin, Joan Baez, David Gray, Tom Jones and Jackson Browne. Reflecting on these treasured compositions, John said: “I’ve learnt as time goes on that the songwriter isn’t necessarily in charge of the songs. Sometimes it feels as if it’s the other way round, that a song will reveal itself fully when it’s ready to be sung.”

Musical Picnics

A wonderful monthly series of original, participatory family performances continues.Musical Picnics are warm, eclectic and diverse musical performances for children, parents and families, welcoming everyone from the local community, featuring an outstanding and eclectic programme of artists, educators, musicians, instruments, styles, approaches, cultures and personalities from across the country.  Brought together in a friendly and relaxed space, Musical Picnics are original participatory performances led by new musicians and artists each month, helping children and families to absorb, interact and fall in love with the incredible world of music and performance.  Come along and discover everything from flamenco to folk, beatboxing to bebop, opera to ouds, sitars to jazz guitars, electronics to percussion!  Each Musical Picnic is different, but in general, will be most enjoyed by children aged 3 to 8 … but you know your children best! Everyone is warmly welcome, from babies to great grandma!  Most performances will be best suited to children under 10, but this is just a gentle guide.
