A history of High Close DATES: 18th – 25th August 2026 ARRIVAL: Please arrive after 5pm on 18th August. As the hostel is open to the public on the day prior to our arrival, cleaning and preparation for our group will take most of the afternoon so we ask any early arrivals not to enter the building until everything is ready. DEPARTURE: We need to leave the hostel by 10.30am on 25th August. PARTICIPANTS: There will be space for around fifty of us. We will hold a number of places for first time attenders on an ECC event until 31st May 2026. (Please be aware that when booking opens places are likely to go very quickly. There is usually a waiting list.) ACCOMMODATION is in dormitories containing between 4 – 12 bunk beds. Our intention is, where possible, to use only the bottom bunks. There are no available single rooms. FOOD: Breakfast, lunch and an evening meal are provided by the hostel. We will also supply some basic snacks such as biscuits, tea, instant coffee, and dairy milk. You’ll need to provide anything beyond those items. There is a members’ kitchen where food can be stored and prepared. It has two fridges as well as toasters, microwaves, hobs, and ovens which we may use. Food should be labelled with your name so as not to be confused with communal supplies. NEAREST SHOPS: Chapel Stile 2 miles, Grasmere 2 miles, Ambleside 5 miles.

Autumn in the Hills

A welcome return to this moorland venue for another three-night autumn weekend in good company. Coldwell Activity Centre Coldwell Reservoir The programme The organisers are keen for this weekend to be a chance to connect with other men in a relaxed setting. We will set up an opening go-round, where we’ll introduce ourselves and get to know the group. There will also be smaller base groups to meet in during the weekend to share feelings and help the community to bond. We will end with a closing go-round. We would love there to be a ‘soiree’ or sharing evening where those who wish to can bring a song, poem, or story. We hope to encourage and facilitate a range of workshops to take place so that men feel inspired to share skills and interests. If you want to run or take part in workshops or discussions, we invite you to bring your ideas and creativity. Or perhaps you’d prefer just to support the activities offered by others. In a first for the ECC, we will have the use of a modest but cosy hostel on the outskirts of Kirkwall, the capital of Orkney. (Pro tip: you can say “Orkney”, or “the Orkney Islands”, but never “the Orkneys.) So if you’ve always wanted to go but thought it was too far or too difficult to organise a trip, this is your chance. Kirkwall Harbour and Waterfront We expect it will be a week of community living with plenty of socialising and relaxing with a group of men who love men, offering the usual range of workshops led by participants. Autumn Gathering

It's that time of year again, when ECC has its annual Autumn Gathering. This is primarily a business event, and may not be suitable for those new to ECC. It's where we hold our AGM, look back at the past year, and make plans for the next year. But there will also be plenty of free time built in for walks, socialising, and base groups. The Location The Beamsley Project is located between Skipton and Harrogate in North Yorkshire. It's on the edge of Yorkshire Dales National Park and there will be opportunities for visits to attractions in the area such as Bolton Abbey, Skipton and its castle, Betty's Tea Rooms in Harrogate, or walking in the Dales. Bolton Abbey There are good railway services to Skipton (7 miles) from Leeds and Carlisle, and to Ilkley (6 miles) from Leeds. Taxis can be booked at both stations.
