Laura van der Heijden and Tom Poster set it between two of the greatest of all cello sonatas – Debussy’s late, compressed masterpiece and Franck’s most famous chamber work. Ravel adds a sultry dance, while Charlotte Sohy’s music offers a compelling rediscovery.

BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists At Howden Minster

| Erika Baikoff soprano Hana Chang violin Aris and NOVO Quartets Zee Zee piano Strauss Sextet from Capriccio Wagner Wesendonck Lieder Chausson Concerto for violin, piano and string quartet A richly coloured programme bringing together voice, strings and piano in one of Yorkshire’s finest churches, as BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists join forces in an exceptional late-Romantic collaboration. From the luminous opening of Strauss’s Capriccio to Wagner’s lyrical preludes to Tristan and Isolde and Chausson’s deeply expressive Concerto, this is late-Romantic chamber music at its most intense and sensual. This concert will be recorded for future broadcast by BBC Radio 3.

From the Cherubic Hymns of the Russian tradition and Bruckner’s radiant motets to premieres by Jason Max Ferdinand and Sarah Henderson, winner of Tenebrae’s composition competition, the concert culminates in Poulenc’s Figure humaine, one of the most demanding and remarkable of all choral works. Come & Sing Mozart’s Requiem

| Nigel Short conductor William Dore organ Soloists from Tenebrae Join members of Tenebrae and their director Nigel Short for an afternoon exploring and singing Mozart’s Requiem. Open to singers of all backgrounds, the session offers expert guidance on vocal technique and ensemble skills, with insights into the precision, blend and expressive clarity that define a Tenebrae performance. The workshop will conclude with a relaxed run-through of the work. Scores will be provided, but please bring your own if you can. The workshop and final run-through are expected to finish at approximately 5pm. A limited number of tickets may be available for non-participants who wish to come and hear the final run-through at 4pm. Please contact the Box Office for more details.
