11am Friday 24th July. Tickets for this tour are available over-the-counter from the Discover Halifax Hub at the Woolshops Shopping Centre, Halifax. There are no online sales for this tour. Did you know that above Halifax Borough Market there are two ‘secret’ streets? Discover them with VisitCalderdale’s ‘Streets in the Sky’ guided tours! On these tours you’ll explore the unique architecture of the Grade II* listed Halifax Borough Market, learn about its history, visit both of the Market balcony ‘Streets in the Sky’, where the houses are still used by the businesses below and one is still lived in; and get an exclusive look inside one of the uninhabited houses. Afterwards you can do some shopping, grab a cuppa and enjoy some food at one of the locally-owned independent cafes and delis in the Market. Please Note: The tours are best suited for adult ages and aren’t really suited for children aged under 13. Any children aged under 16 must be under close supervision of their guardian/parent at all times. There are many steps are involved in gaining access to both of the Streets in the Sky and more steps inside the house we visit, making this tour unsuitable for wheelchair users, those with limited mobility or children’s prams or buggies. No dogs on this walk, please (although Assistance Dogs are welcome). Places on each tour are limited to 16 people.

Sketch Workshop with Shoreditch Sketcher at Halifax Borough Market

10am – 12pm Grab your pencils and sketchbook and join Phil Dean, Shoreditch Sketcher for a fun, laid-back drawing session at Halifax Borough Market! Join us for a sketch workshop with Phil Dean, Shoreditch Sketcher. Spend the morning drawing in this stunning Grade II listed building that’s celebrating it’s 130th birthday on 25th July. Bring your sketchpad and pencils and enjoy a unique experience. The workshop starts at 10am and last for two hours. Meet Under the Clock, then explore this beatiful, vibrant market. Phil’s a local lad that lived in Shibden, Halifax for 10 years. He’s now in the big smoke, sketching and encouraging other people to pick up a pencil. He’s had books published by the Tate and has sketched, been commissioned, and held workshops around the country and beyond. This small group session is open to all abilities, from beginner to seasoned sketchers, everyone is welcome. It’s all about capturing the unique energy and character of the market through live, on location sketching.

What to Expect: 2 Hour Guided Market Tour: Your market tour guide will take you on a journey through the market’s history and its impact on the town of Halifax, and share with you mouth-wateringly good food stories from both past and present. 4 Surprise Food & Drink Stops: Sample a curated selection of non-vegetarian and vegetarian treats, including two sit down tasting stops.
