Sing-Along a Scottish Song

Join Biggar Corn Exchange Community Choir for a relaxed and welcoming evening of singing together. This informal “sharing” is all about the joy of joining in — no experience needed, no pressure, just a room full of voices and some great songs. We’ll be singing a mix of traditional Scottish songs alongside well-loved music written by, or performed by, Scottish artists and bands. Whether you know every word or just want to listen and join in where you can, you’ll be very welcome. The evening will be led by Fletcher Mathers, with accompaniment from Gordon Dougall on keyboard and guitar. All proceeds will support Biggar Corn Exchange and our Community Choir. If you enjoy music and fancy being part of something uplifting for an evening, this is for you. All voices welcome! Grab some merchandise early, you know you’ll want a T-Shirt! 1 – 2 pm OPEN WORKSHOP Join acclaimed guitarist Tom Anderson for a relaxed, hands-on workshop designed for curious and developing players. Drawing on over two decades of teaching and international performance experience, including appearances at Nashville’s Basement and London’s Royal Albert Hall, Tom will guide you through fresh approaches to the guitar, exploring the CAGED system beyond the basics alongside accessible swing and jazz concepts. Expect practical demonstrations, fretboard insights, and real-world techniques you can immediately apply.

Three days of live sets, workshops, film, dance, and jam sessions – all in the spirit of sharing, learning, and celebrating Django Reinhardt and gypsy jazz. Whether you play, dance, or simply listen, this is a festival built by and for the community. What’s on Saturday? 12 – 1 pm FREE FILM Django Legacy* Directed and produced by John Jeremy for Jazzology Productions, this 1991 UK documentary (52 mins) offers a vivid portrait of Django Reinhardt’s lasting influence. Filmed across France, Holland and the UK, it brings together leading musicians, rare archival footage and narration by Sacha Distel to create a compelling tribute to Django’s life and music. This special festival screening is taken from John’s own high‑quality archival master, digitised in 2021 from the National Film and Television Archive – a significant step up from the VHS‑sourced versions found online. Presented with the director’s arrangement, a portion of the licence fee supports the charity Family Friends Travellers. Known for his effortless swing, distinctive tone, and deep connection to Django Reinhardt’s legacy, Robin brings a rare blend of tradition and individuality to the stage. Joining him are two outstanding musicians in their own right: Chris Quinn, whose clarity, drive, and instinctive musicality make him an exceptional rhythm and solo guitarist, and John Wheatcroft, a bassist with a superb feel for time, texture, and ensemble playing. Together, they form a trio with real depth and rapport. They’ll be playing music from Robin’s acclaimed album For the Love of George, weaving gypsy jazz with fresh interpretations of George Harrison’s songs.

Perfect for beginners, this lively workshop will have you moving with confidence in no time – no partner or prior experience required. With a focus on fun, connection and rhythm, Cathy and Michael will guide you through accessible steps to get you ready for the Sunday live band social dance with Chardon Bleu at The Gillespie Centre. Founded in Edinburgh over a decade ago, Vintage Tap & Swing celebrates the roots of swing dancing, inspired by the original pioneers of the early 20th century. Cathy and Michael began dancing during the 1990s Lindy Hop revival and have trained with legendary figures including Frankie Manning and Dawn Hampton. Their teaching blends authenticity, warmth and joy; so come along, wear comfortable clothes, smooth soled shoes, bring water, and let your feet be happy! Spaces are limited to 30 participants. HEADLINE ACT SEONAID AITKEN’S MANOUCHE NOUVEAU 7:30 pm The Manouchetones A Liverpool‑based Gypsy Jazz ensemble specialising in 1930s Hot Club swing, Latin jazz and Django Reinhardt originals. Micky Dunn, Karl Webb and John Wheatcroft deliver vibrant arrangements, tight ensemble playing and an irresistibly warm stage presence that brings classic swing to life for festival audiences. 8:30 pm SEONAID AITKEN’S Manouche Nouveau Closing the festival in unforgettable style, Seonaid Aitken leads Manouche Nouveau with a fresh, modern take on Gypsy Jazz.
