Paint In The Style Of — David Hockney: a tribute day for one of the great colourists, who left us in June 2026, and an exercise in learning from a modern master. With Damian Sémonin we borrow Hockney’s eyes for the day and paint the way he did — bright, flat pool-and-splash acrylics: clean edges, bold colour, water you can almost hear. You’ll finish your own acrylic painting in Hockney’s style on the day. All materials provided and refreshments included; all levels welcome — small group. Bag Club at The Cornish Craft Barn Calling all sewists, makers, and “I-need-more-pockets” enthusiasts! Whether you’re a seasoned pro or have never touched a sewing machine, we’re launching a brand new monthly Bag Club. Every month, we’ll gather at the Barn to: Work on Your Own Projects: Bring that half-finished tote or that favorite repair you’ve been meaning to get to. The Group Project: We’ll sometimes also work together on a simple, fun bag project—perfect for learning new skills in a relaxed environment. Talk Shop: Hardware, fabrics, patterns, and inspiration—all things bag-related! Access our resources, patterns, industrial sewing machine, overlocker, rivet press etc to help your bag making get that professional edge.

Wheal Treasure Stitch Club - 1st Tuesday Monthly

Welcome to one of our many Cornish Craft Barn Stitch Groups. We run several regular groups that meet once a month. If you’re interested in joining one everyone is welcome! All levels of skill and project are welcome. This is an all-day session where you can work on quilting projects on machines or by hand with other quilters who are looking to share ideas and experience and can provide guidance for each other – plus lots of lovely chat, cake and coffee! It is not a ‘tutored’ session but a room filled with abundant expertise from which to seek assistance. We can offer short demonstrations or mini projects from time to time if this is something the group decides they want! The session runs from 10am – 4pm but feel free to attend as much of this as you can to fit in with your other commitments. Lunch can be bought from the cafe with a 10% discount. Plenty of parking outside and we can give you a hand to get your machines upstairs to the training room if needed. We have several new Janome quilting sewing machines available to borrow for the day if you need one or find it easier than bringing one in from home. Please book ahead or let us know if you need one so we make sure we have enough available. We ask for payment quarterly in advance £17.50 per session, so £52.50 which covers three sessions for you. If you can’t make a session you can use a credit up on any of the other Wheal monthly groups we run, or carry one session over in any 6 month period.

Wet Felted Seascape Picture

What You’ll Learn Create your very own unique seascape picture from wool This workshop will give you an introduction to the exciting and colourful world of felting. Wet felting is a technique that uses soap and water to bind the wool fibres together. I will take you through the process of creating your very own felted seascape picture (9×7 inches approx.) inspired by the Cornish coast to take home. You will learn how to lay out the wool fibres to create the base layer. After choosing the colours, I will introduce you to different ways of using wool to create different effects. Other fibres such as sari silk threads can be added at this stage. You will then be taken through the felting process using water and soap. Finally, the piece is rolled until fully felted. All materials will be provided Olive soap is used in the workshop, but you may bring your own soap if required. Also please bring protective gloves if handling wool is an issue. You will need to bring 2 towels (1 medium and 1 small) and a bag to take your work home as it will need drying at home.

What You’ll Learn The ancient tradition of weaving flowers and foliage into a circle with no beginning or end has long symbolised the cycle of life, the changing seasons and our connection with the natural world. Join us in celebrating the beauty of the Cornish summer as you create your own living wreath inspired by this enduring tradition. With relaxed, step-by-step guidance, you’ll create a beautiful partly living Cornish welcome wreath using miniature Cornish plants, seasonal foliage and beautiful blooms. All equipment and materials are provided, making this workshop perfect for beginners and experienced creatives alike. Your finished wreath can be displayed on your door as a warm welcome or used as a beautiful table centrepiece. Designed to continue growing long after the workshop, it will thrive for months with a little gentle watering and care, providing a lasting reminder of a Cornish summer. An Introduction to Freemotion Embroidery and Applique – Afternoon Tea Themed

Learn the art of freemotion embroidery in this class aimed at beginners. Learn the art of freemotion embroidery in this class aimed at beginners. Enjoy the freedom of drawing with your machine to create your own artwork. This in-depth ‘Afternoon Tea’ themed beginner’s class covers everything you need to know to learn this technique, from setting up your machine and what equipment you will need, to top tips and handy advice to get the most out of this wonderfully creative technique. This workshop is taught by Caroline Michelle Morgan who is a Textile artist specialising in freemotion embroidery. Throughout the day you will be taught the skills and techniques required, by producing several small samples, growing in confidence as you become more skilled at the technique. Ending the day by producing a lovely piece of freemotion artwork using the raw edge applique technique. You will need to bring the following materials and equipment, everything apart from the sewing machine feet can be purchased in the shop if needed: Sewing Machine, please bring your extra wide table for your machine if you have one (helpful but not essential), also don’t forget your foot pedal and cable. If you would like to borrow a machine for the day; we have some Janome rental machines you can hire for £5 for the day they have the freemotion embroidery feet needed. Make a Willow Hare

What You’ll Learn Come and join us for a fun and creative day weaving your own willow hare sculpture for the home or garden No weaving experience is needed as Jasmine will guide you through every step to create your own sitting or moon gazing hare sculpture This workshop is the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill and make your very own sculpture to take home with you We will be using sustainably grown natural willow and you’ll be taught about the prepping, soaking and weaving processes involved with willow work This in-person event will be filled with laughter, creativity, and of course, plenty of willow weaving.
