Across the weekend of the 25th & 26th of July Bowlore will be performing two shows per day - one archery, one weapons (both approximately 45 mins+) showing the use of a range of arrowheads and edged hand/pole weapons from the whole medieval period, including choreographed combat and sharp-sword cutting demonstrations. The shows will be fully commentated and include plenty of history, humour and audience participation elements. Between shows there will be have-a-go archery and sword-school (suitable for all ages, for a small fee) plus a hands-on display of weapons and armour, talks and Q&A, set within their medieval tented encampment. The Abbey at Night: Discovering Bats

The abbey is home to a variety of resident and migrating bat species, including pipistrelles, lesser horseshoe bats and the rare grey long-eared bat. On this evening tour of the abbey, you'll join the Glastonbury Abbey team to learn about the different bat species you might spot and practice using a bat detector, before making your way into the grounds after sunset to discover the bats. We won’t walk fast – and there will be a couple of benches to rest on the way. The route will be on surfaced paths or grass, though we can vary the route if it helps. The walk itself will last approximately 1 hour. Nature is weather dependent – and bats don’t tend to come out if it’s cold or wet – so we may need to rearrange if conditions aren’t suitable. Please bring a torch and dress appropriately for the weather on the day, including sturdy footwear - it can get any food or drink that you may need. Quiet children 12 and over accompanied by a responsible adult are welcome. As this is a wildlife walk dogs are not appropriate for this activity. This walk starts at Abbey House. Please meet here to begin the briefing at 9pm. This is a Glastonbury Abbey fundraising event.

Pinocchio - Illyria

Carlo Collodi’s classic is a perennial favourite. It is the third most translated book in the world, having appeared in no fewer than 260 languages since it was published in 1883, and has never been out of print. Childless toymaker Geppetto buys a piece of wood to make a puppet – little realising the chaos he is about to unleash. The puppet yearns for adventure and runs away, but instead of excitement only finds glorious attractions containing hidden dangers. He returns home hoping to be showered with sympathy and learns his tribulations are just beginning. Running away hasn’t worked; lying won’t work; he must become a real boy to achieve the belonging he craves. Collodi describes the development from puppet to real boy in the same way that useless green timber is matured into useful well-seasoned wood – a transformation only achieved through trials of water and fire. Illyria celebrates this magical coming-of-age tale in a thrilling musical outdoor show at Glastonbury Abbey! Recommended for ages 5+ (younger children also welcome). Badger Walks at Glastonbury Abbey Late Summer 2026

The ever popular Badger Walks return for a series of late summer sessions, offering a comfortable guided walk around the abbey grounds after hours to learn about the wildlife on site. The walk will meet outside Abbey House, tour the grounds discussing the flora & fauna of the abbey and then wait quietly near the Fish Pond for the badgers to appear. We will then make our way off site via the Silver Street gate. Please note the start and end points of the Badger Walk are different. Tickets Members/PLUS Members: £7 Non-Members: £12 Spaces on the walks are strictly limited to 12 and booking must be made in advance. As ever we can’t guarantee sightings, but the walks usually experience quite a few badgers and we have multiple areas where badgers can be spotted. We have a family of foxes in the grounds now so you may also see them. If you haven’t been on a Badger Walk before, please be aware of these guidelines: Wear clothing that won’t make noise. By all means bring a camera but please set it to silent shutter. The walk will also involve a lot of standing and waiting (quietly). Once you’ve been stood still waiting for badgers for a while even the warmest of evenings can get cold. Good idea to bring a layer or two. Please follow the guidance of the staff and volunteers leading the walk and be as still as possible while waiting for the badgers to appear. Due to the amount of patience and quiet required on the walks they are not generally suited to young children.
