Janice Burns & Jon Doran at An Tobar Janice Burns & Jon Doran are an award-winning Anglo-Scottish duo who came together after discovering a shared love of traditional music. Their songs tell vivid stories about the nature of life and our place in the world. Janice & Jon’s ‘clever and uncluttered musical storytelling’ (Songlines) comes alive through tight vocal harmonies and sensitive interplay between mandolin, bouzouki and guitar. Their arrangements have a spellbinding presence and an understated energy that transports songs from the pages of books and manuscripts into the imagination of the listener. With their relaxed and personable approach to performance, Janice & Jon are renowned for the warmth of their connection with audiences. From opening Stage 2 at Cambridge Folk Festival, to playing at the likes of Celtic Connections, Edinburgh Tradfest and Cecil Sharp House, the duo are highly sought after across the UK and beyond. Following the success of their self-titled EP in 2020, Janice & Jon released their debut album, No More the Green Hills, in Autumn 2022. The album had overwhelmingly positive feedback, finding its place in the Official UK Folk Albums Chart, as well as gaining airplay on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio Scotland. Folk songs have always travelled, put down new roots, borrowed and evolved. Janice & Jon bring together songs that have survived through the ages, shapeshifting and adapting as they’ve been passed from singer to singer.

As part of the Royal Scottish Academy's 200th anniversary celebrations throughout 2026, the RSA are working with partners across Scotland and beyond to shine a spotlight on the Academy's past, present and future. RSA200: Celebrating Together will be a unique and far-reaching festival of Scottish art and architecture. Integral to the RSA's history is the Academy's Life School at The Mound in Edinburgh, where fine art, including life drawing, was taught until the formation of Edinburgh College of Art in 1907 (from where the Life School continued to function until 1930).

Coast-Kyst-Strönd brings together Haftor Medbøe (guitar and electronics), Gunnar Halle (trumpet, voice and electronics) and Signy Jakobsdottir (drums, percussion and electronics) performing a programme of collectively composed music. The work draws on the musicians’ eclectic musical backgrounds that span jazz, improvised music, traditional and folk musics, pop, rock and electronica. Together they create a sumptuous sound world with strident melodies over lush harmonies and intricate textures. Acoustica marries with electronica in a fusion of Nordic sensibilities that pushes at the edges of genre and invites the audience into a warm, embracing space.

Having recently celebrated a decade or touring together Scotland’s ‘chamber-folk’ quartet RANT released their latest album ‘SPIN’ to much critical acclaim last year. A bold, ambitious and reflective collection, SPIN is an album of reinterpretation - RANT’s take on influential tracks from their formative years. Music of bands and players from across the globe who inspired them individually and collectively. The album is a tribute to those influences, and whilst nostalgic by nature has a fresh, confident, energised approach synonymous with the band’s well-established resonant sound. With 3 acclaimed albums under their belt - RANT remain at the forefront of the Scottish fiddle scene. The meeting of four of the country’s finest players, the quartet use just their fiddles to weave a tapestry of melodies, textures, layers and sounds. Bethany Reid from Shetland, Anna Massie and Lauren MacColl from the Highland peninsula of the Black Isle, and Gillian Frame from Arran join forces to showcase the combined resonance of their instruments with repertoire unearthed from both old collections and their own contemporary writing. RANT create a sound which is both spacious and lush, yet retaining all the earthy bite and spark of a traditional Scottish fiddle player.
