An Afternoon With Adam Frew

£60pp Discussing the life and practice of renowned Potter, Adam Frew, and his work in ceramics. What to expect On 7th November we will be welcoming renowned Potter, Adam Frew, for an afternoon of conversation and demonstrations. Adam’s work centres on the potter’s wheel. Traditional eastern forms inspire him, but spontaneity as a means of personal expression is key to his work. The exuberant action of throwing is enhanced by a continued experimentation through process, form and colour. Mark Making is intuitive, sometimes relating to form, or process of making, sometimes it’s part of a personal narrative. During this one-off event, Adam will talk about his career and practice as well as giving two demonstrations - the first being a throwing demonstration and the second being a decorating demonstration. GUEST SPEAKER BIO About Adam Adam is a potter based in Northern Ireland who works in porcelain, creating thrown functional and large one-off pots. During his studies at Belfast Art College, Adam spent time at the historic Winchcombe Pottery and in Finland with Judy Makela. Upon graduating in 2004, he undertook a two year apprenticeship with Lisa Hammond where he gained the confidence to set up on his own. Adam lives in Aghadowey in Co. Derry with his family and works and teaches there from his own purpose-built studio.

An Afternoon With James Ort

£60pp Discussing the life and practice of Wire and Ceramic Wildlife Sculptor, James Ort, and his celebrated work in ceramics. What to expect On 8th November we will be welcoming Wire and Ceramic Sculptor, James Ort, for an afternoon of conversation and demonstrations. James is a wildlife artist and his work has been exhibited in local and national exhibitions. Creating in ceramic is his main love but he also makes art using wire, mixed media, painting, and drawing. During this one-off event, James will talk about his career and practice as well as giving two demonstrations showing how to create a clay animal from start to finish. About James GUEST SPEAKER BIO James discovered sculpture when he became manager of the Phoenix Studio – an art school in Oxfordshire. Having a lifelong fascination with wildlife and a former career in conservation, James uses his understanding of anatomy and form to push ceramics to its limits. He teaches sculpture and is passionate about using his art to benefit others – be it wildlife or mankind. James was very much inspired and influenced by his nature loving Grandfather, Brian Price Thomas who illustrated a number of the Ladybird Children Books. USEFUL INFO The Details During this one-off event, James Ort will reflect on his early creative influences and the experiences that created his path into ceramics. He will speak about the natural world, materials, and artistic encounters that have shaped and continue to inform his work today.

An Afternoon With Tom Knowles Jackson

£60pp During this one-off event, renowned Potter, Tom Knowles Jackson, will present his interpretation of ‘the Leach tradition’ and how it, and other life experiences, have and continue to shape his work. What to expect On 22nd November we will be welcoming renowned Potter, Tom Knowles Jackson, for an afternoon of conversation and demonstrations. Tom makes a range of functional cook and serveware for the table and home. His work is high fired stoneware, using a small range of his own glazes derived from iron, copper and wood ash. During this one-off event, Tom will talk about his career and practice as well as giving two full-length throwing demonstrations. The first demonstration will focus on repetition throwing - showing how to use a potters grade to make two small batches of different pots. The second demonstration will show how Tom makes his larger statement pieces, such as a giant serving platter or a banqueting bowl. GUEST SPEAKER BIO About Tom Tom Knowles Jackson trained under Steve Sheridan as a schoolboy at Bryanston School in Dorset. Careers in the Army and in business in the Middle and Far East finally surrendered to Tom’s inexorable call to ceramics. Tom now works in South Gloucestershire where he has established a brace of open access ceramic makerspaces; The Clay Loft near Stroud and Clay@The Fold between Malvern and Worcester. Tom makes a range of functional cook and serveware for the table and home.
