Create a Creature

Join this interactive art workshop where we will make, draw and imagine new and exciting species of animals! Using real and fantastical animals we will experiment to create exciting drawings and sculptures of these new creatures. Lots of materials will be on offer throughout the day to explore ideas, and artist support will be offered throughout. Emma Kerr is a visual artist, specialising in community creative projects and workshops. She has training in art specific subjects (BA Hons Fine Art, MA Sculpture). With over a decade of experience in arts and education, some recent project partners include Well City Salisbury, Wiltshire Creative, The Young Gallery and Pallant House Gallery.

Comedy Performance Day

Love making people laugh? This fun and energetic comedy workshop for young people aged 11-14 is all about jokes, sketches, improv games, and—most importantly—timing. You’ll learn how comedy works, how to follow a script, and how to create your own funny ideas, taking home a recording of your own work. Through group games and performance activities, you’ll build confidence, think quickly, and learn how to deliver a great punchline. Whether you dream of performing on stage or just want to feel more confident speaking in front of others, this class is packed with laughs, creativity, and teamwork. Led by actor Dan Avery. Dan has a BA (Hons) in Theatre, Media and Drama from the University of Glamorgan, meaning he is academically qualified to pretend for a living. Credits include Mr Rochester in Jane Eyre and the title role in Hamlet at the Minack Theatre, where he won Best Performance of the Season 2018 by being intensely dramatic in fresh air. Other roles include Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The York Realist and The Seagull.Dan also performs widely in comedy, including short sketches and public speaking events, and gained a distinction in comedy at university (which he considers proof). He has appeared in short films, independent productions and commercials, performed at the Salisbury Fringe, and taught comedy and drama at the Pauline Quirke Academy in Salisbury.

Wiltshire Creative Young Technicians

Our year long Young Technicians programme offers foundational skills and hands-on experience for 14-18 year olds who are interested in and keen to develop skills and further career pathways in technical roles within live performance. Participants shadow professional productions and technicians, attend bespoke workshops and training sessions. All sessions take place after school, on weekends, and during school holidays. Join us at our trial pop-up cafe, staffed by volunteers with a passion for the Arts Centre and for creating a welcoming space for local people in a building that so many people love. Open from 10 – 2pm on a range of dates – pop along to our pop-up for a cup of tea and a cake beneath the stained glass of St Edmunds. Everyone is welcome, from babes-in-arms to our arts centre elders, with a £2 hot drink always available so that a catch-up with friends need not cost the earth.

Adult Theatre Workshop

Discover, Create, Connect – key acting and performance skills for everyone Wiltshire Creative invites all adults with an interest in theatre to join Adult Theatre Workshop, designed for anyone who wants to explore and develop performance skills in a supportive, creative environment led by theatre professionals. Whether you’re reconnecting with a passion for theatre, building on past experience, or stepping into the rehearsal room for the first time, this is your chance to learn and experiment without the pressure of performance. Just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm. Autumn Term 1: Shakespeare with Christian Emmerson - This term will focus on staging set scenes and duologues, designed to bring Shakespeare’s words to life, moving them off the page and into performance. Participants will explore text through guided exercises and games. Each participant will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform a directed scene, applying the skills and techniques developed for understanding and delivering Shakespearean text. You will explore characters motivation and physicality and learn about different approaches to Staging Shakespeare. Texts used will include Macbeth, Othello, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and selected sonnets. No prior experience is necessary! Autumn Term 2: Comedy in Performance with Dan Avery - Fast, fun and energising workshops exploring bold, larger-than-life character and comedy.

Dementia Arts Group

A new partnership between Beyond Dementia, Dance Six-0 and Wiltshire Creative. Join us at Salisbury Arts Centre for a weekly dementia friendly group facilitated by professional artists and staff from Beyond Dementia. Each month we will rotate sessions in art, music, dance and a memory café which will stimulate, uplift and connect people living with dementia and their carers alike. Each participant requires their own ticket for these sessions. Carers are warmly encouraged to join in as participants and also require a ticket. Trained volunteers are on hand to lend support as needed. Weekly sessions on Mondays from 10.30am – 12pm.
