The People's Emergency Briefing

A special community screening: The People’s Emergency Briefing #PEBuk What’s happening with climate and nature, and what does it mean for everyday life in the UK? Join us for a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing - an eye-opening 50-minute film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts with the latest evidence and why it matters for things like: Extreme weather Food security Health Cost of living The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing in Westminster (featured by ITV, Channel 4 and The Times) with appearances from Chris Packham, Deborah Meaden, and a range of voices from across the UK. The film is being screened in venues accross the UK as shown on this MAP After the film there will be an open discussion about what it means for our community and what we can do locally. Bring a friend, neighbour or family member: everyone is welcome. Suitable for ages 16+ Tickets are priced at £5.00 (plus booking fee) or "pay what you can afford" from £1 up. As Paradiso is committed to enabling films about the environment to be shown proceeds will be split between covering costs and supporting a local environmental organisation. Please note tickets are non-refundable. If after booking you are unable to attend, we’d be very grateful if you could let us know so that we can re-allocate your ticket to someone else. Line Dancing with Danni - August

Following the sell-out success of our previous Line Dancing events are you ready to get boot scootin' once more on Saturday 22nd August? If so join Dance with Danni and Bovey Paradiso Arts in Liverton. All levels welcome whether you are a beginner or experienced line dancer. Don't forget those cowboy hats for the best hoedown in town! The event will be held at Liverton Village Hall and a licensed bar will be available. Doors will open at 7pm, dancing will begin from 7.30! Speaker Series - Stephen Powles - Otters

"Otters - Coming to a River Near You" with Stephen Powles Following Stephen's recent sell out talk at Paradiso, join award‑winning wildlife photographer and conservationist Stephen Powles for a lively and insightful journey into the natural world. In this facinating Otter talk, Stephen covers (amongst other things) an otter's amazing design features, their behaviour, signs to look out for and their population crash plus subsequent recovery. At the end there is a short piece on Hammer Scar, a female otter that unintentionally became habituated to Stephen and with whom he made four TV appearances. A former vet, Stephen changed career to pursue his lifelong passion for wildlife, photography and conservation. His work has appeared on television, in the national press and has earned major awards. Much of his photography focuses on the fascinating wildlife found in and around his Devon home. The Music of the Trees

Inspired by the wonder of the natural world, 'The Music of Trees' weaves together tales of our woodland folklore with a suite of original compositions, written in the woodlands of Sussex during lockdown. Geoff is a master of the acoustic guitar with an intricate, richly harmonic style, that blend his classical, jazz, Celtic and Spanish influences. The show features beautiful music, live looping and forest sounds, with pieces of music inspired by trees including ash, elm, birch and yew, interspersed with magical storytelling.
