Exploring Embodied Spirituality

‘Christianity is the only religion that says that God became a human body and we are going to continue to promote embodiment as the way of knowing. God became flesh. (John 1:14)’ Richard Rohr This taster day on embodied prayer and spirituality invites you to explore wordless, playful and contemplative practice using your whole being – body, mind and spirit to worship, pray and encounter God. The day will be facilitated by Soobie Whitfield, a dance practitioner, who has been journeying with this practice for over 40 years. She describes herself as a fidgety contemplative. After a brief introduction and movement warm up, we shall be focussing on body prayer, posture, walking and mindful action. There will be opportunities throughout the day for silence, including the option for a partially silent lunch (lunch not provided, please bring a packed lunch), and for discussion/ sharing. No previous experience or level of physical ability necessary, as we will be moving within our own capabilities, however, please inform the chaplain on booking of any physical conditions that we should be aware of. Please wear loose or stretchable, comfortable clothing. We will be outdoors for some sessions so bring suitable clothing for the weather conditions. Relax and Renew

Come for a relaxed day in the beautiful surroundings of Whirlow Spirituality Centre offering time and space to simply be. There will be space (and support if wanted) for: · using art and craft materials · the opportunity to go on a guided walk to the Quarry Gardens and Whirlowbrook Park · or to take yourself for a walk where and when you wish · accessing the spirituality library · spaces for silence and spaces to sit and chat The day will begin with an opening reflection and close with tea, cake and an opportunity to give thanks for all we’ve enjoyed together. Hot and cold drinks and cake in the afternoon provided. Please bring your own packed lunch. This day is designed for adults. Under 18s are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or carer at all times. Please contact us if you wish to book a place for anyone under 18. Thomas. She writes: “His poems have brought me closer to God since I first began reading them over 30 years ago. Of particular resonance are those written when he was Vicar of Aberdaron on the Lyn Peninsula. He wrote about the wild landscape of that part of Wales in poems which explore his search for God, his struggles with prayer and the importance of silence”.

She writes: “His poems have brought me closer to God since I first began reading them over 30 years ago. Of particular resonance are those written when he was Vicar of Aberdaron on the Lyn Peninsula. He wrote about the wild landscape of that part of Wales in poems which explore his search for God, his struggles with prayer and the importance of silence”.
