WeBelieve Festival of Catholic Life

This summer from 24 to 27 July, St Mary’s College, Oscott is again hosting WeBelieve, a festival of Catholic Life bringing thousands together to encounter Jesus Christ in His Church. WeBelieve has been designed with parishes and families in mind, as an opportunity to receive inspiring faith formation together and to bond as a community. Pilgrim-attendees can choose to join the festival for the whole weekend (camping, staying locally or coming from home), or come for a day. Supported by the Guild of Our Lady of Ransom, the Festival has been described as ‘an unmissable opportunity to discover the traditions and charisms that flow through the Church, to grow in authentic community, and to encounter the transforming love of God’. Cantonese Mass at St Francis of Assisi, Morley

CANTONESE MASS at St Francis of Assisi, Morley (Parish of St William of York) celebrated by Fr Bruno Lepeu, with Confessions from 5.15pm and Mass at 6pm. During this Year of St Francis of Assisi, a Plenary Indulgence may be gained (under the usual conditions) by going to Confession and hearing Mass at a church dedicated to the saint! After Mass, there will a gathering in the parish hall, to which you are warmly invited – please bring along some light refreshments or snacks to share! Oratory of St Joseph Catholic Men’s Group – July Talk before August Break

Fr Pius, a Canon of Our Lady of Sorrows, Peckham, was born in Nottingham. He studied Theology at Oxford, joined the Norbertine Order in 2011, and was ordained in 2016. He holds a licence in Canon Law from KU Leuven and serves as an ecclesiastical judge and advisor. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Canon Law.

Growing Old GRACEfully – Carers Project Online Support Sessions

Carers Project Online Support Sessions – first Wednesday of the month at 2pm Come and join us for an opportunity to make new friends, chat and share with one another, including space and time to pray! The support group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 2pm, and unpaid carers are encouraged to come along to any session – all you have to do is let Michelle know that you would like to attend a session and she will make sure you are sent the Zoom link to join. We know that sometimes leaving the person you care for may not be possible which is why we are offering these online sessions; to bring support and the opportunity to pray and have time for your faith in your own home. Bishop leads Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Grace, Osmotherley

This year, the annual Middlesbrough Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Grace, Osmotherley, DL6 3AP, will take place on Sunday 16 August. The Rosary will be prayed at 2:30pm, and at 3pm, Bishop Marcus will preside at the Celebration of Holy Mass for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Safeguarding Saints’ Day: St Monica

St Monica is one of our ‘Safeguarding Saints’: she was a Christian, married to an abusive pagan husband. One of her three children was St Augustine of Hippo: a great Saint and Doctor of the Church. St Monica prayed that her violent husband would repent before he died – and he did! St Monica is a Patron Saint of all victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse. The Leeds charity which provides short-term accommodation for destitute female asylum seekers, St Monica’s Housing, is named after her. If you have information of a safeguarding nature where a child or adult at risk is in immediate danger or requires immediate medical attention call emergency services on 999. Diocese of Leeds Safeguarding can be contacted in confidence by email via or speak to our Safeguarding Team on . Anyone who brings concerns or allegations to the notice of the Church will be responded to sensitively, respectfully and seriously. All concerns and allegations will be addressed using the Church’s national procedures and in a timely manner.
