Confessional poetry of the 1950’s & 60’s came at a time of societal change and disillusionment. Poets and artists felt a deep urge to move beyond abstraction and create from their direct experience. This was part of a shift in perception, influencing how we see our self, humanity and relationships today. Now on the thresholds of even greater collective change, in the face of such unknowns, how do we find new pathways for what we seek to express? What are our modern ‘confessions’? We will explore the body through movement practices and drawing; language through study of a range of writers and artists; questions on God and the planet through the lens of nature and the mystic traditions. Are you a writer with an interest in developing your craft as part of a unique and nurturing group? I invite you to join me on this journey. Dates: 2-7pm on April 11th / May 2nd / June 6th / July 4th I am a yoga-movement teacher and dancer, have an MA in poetry and have published two books. My poems offer a tool, a bridge, a torch in our human search for meaning and explore the questions and tensions that exist between communion and freedom. Information and booking: /

SATURDAY 4 JULY 10.00 -15.30 FROME PUBLISHING FAIR We welcome the return of Frome Publishing Fair to the Silk Mill for its 10th anniversary year. This great event was launched by Frome Writers’ Collective in 2016 and is now a popular annual event within the first weekend of Frome Festival. The fair is always well supported with a great atmosphere and a high level of interest from visitors. Stallholders include: publishers, booksellers, authors, artists, designers and publishing service providers. Help and advice about writing and publishing is available throughout the day from our information table. Join us at our fabulous free fair: readers, writers, publishers, editors, artists, illustrators and visitors of all ages will be there, with more stalls than ever before,and a wonderful variety of publications on display and for sale. A must for all readers, writers and book lovers. Refreshments available. Bookbinding Workshop

Jen Louise Meyer Bookbinding Workshop Frome Art School Saturday 4th July, 1-5pm Join printmaker and bookbinder, Jen Louise Meyer, for a softcover bookbinding workshop. During this workshop, participants will learn the skills to make A6 sketchbooks using the Coptic binding method, the oldest binding technique. All materials and tools will be supplied, including a selection of Jen’s original linoprints to choose from for book covers. Participants will have the opportunity to make more than one book if time allows. Jen will also talk about how to book bind at home without investing in a lot of equipment and, for those interested in continuing bookbinding on a regular basis, Jen will provide an introduction to the specialist tools she uses. This workshop is for adults. No previous bookbinding or art experience necessary, just an interest in learning. Jen’s prints and books can be found here on . TAPESTRY ~ TWO WOMEN AND THE STORY OF BAYEUX Kylie Fitzpatrick in conversation with Jayne Sadgrove Wednesday, 8 July, at 7:30pm (Doors open at 7:00) Frome-based author, Kylie Fitzpatrick’s bestselling novel, Tapestry, was first published in 2002. A revised, celebratory edition will be released in June 2026 to mark the historical visit to the UK of the Bayeux Tapestry. Tapestry tells the tale of two women, nine centuries apart. In Westminster 1064, Leofgyth, royal embroiderer, stitches a secret narrative that will outlast empires. While in Normandy, 2018, academic Madeleine has devoted her life to medieval studies. Across nine hundred years, their story reveals the truth behind the Bayeux Tapestry, the most enigmatic artefact in history, and bears witness to the moment England was changed forever. Kylie is an author, presenter and educator. Her five historical novels have been published in eleven languages. She holds Masters and Doctoral degrees in Literature and Creative Writing, is a publishing consultant, and hosts writing events in the UK and internationally. Jayne Sadgrove is a historian and the Chair of the Frome Society. Together they will explore the novel, the writing of history as fiction and its role in bringing history alive for people today. Thrice in a Blue Moon Thursday 8th July 7-11 Bar opens at 7, music from 7.30 We are very excited to welcome back Kangaroo Moon and Blue Midnight to the Silk Mill Gallery for Frome Festival 2026. Blue Midnight remember playing in the very early days of Frome Festival and so it is wonderful to welcome them to the Silk Mill on this 25th anniversary year. Two very different but intricately linked bands will intrigue your mind and engage your body as they weave magical violin and keyboard with the strumming of strings, the plucking of bass, the beating of drums and a splash of trombone into a funky psychedelic heart-lifting wall of richly melodic sound.
