The Bish Bosh Bash: The Improvised Game Show

The Bish Bosh Bash is a great introduction for those who’ve never seen improv before. An easy-going and mischievous evening awaits. It’s a game of two halves! In the first half, our teams will go head-to-head playing quick-fire games, which those familiar with ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ might recognise. The second half is our knockout round, where our players are both writers and actors in mini-plays inspired by your suggestions. They’re battling it out for you, playing for your votes and adoration. You decide who makes it to the end, and ultimately, which team goes home with the glory! Improv Taster Session

Saturdays | 14:00 – 16:00 (Please see below for dates of upcoming sessions) Approximately twice a month, we run the Improv Taster Session for anyone looking to try their hand at improvisation before committing to a course. Facilitated by an experienced Bristol Improv Theatre instructor, the class will explore the fundamental skills of improvisation using a smorgasbord of improv games and exercises. It’s a great chance to try improv and connect with others in a playful way. Come along and give improv a go! Places are capped at  12 with up to 2 instructors present. Improv Drop-ins

Mondays | 19:00 – 21:00 Looking to stretch your improvising muscles? Then our drop-ins are for you! Our drop-ins run every Monday evening and alternate between scene workshops and classes focused on specific skills to help you pad out your improvisers tool-kit. During our scene workshops, you’ll receive supportive and constructive side-coaching, tailored to the group and designed to develop your confidence and improvisation skills. On the other hand, the regular drop-ins will take a specific skill and explore it through games, exercises and scenes. Facilitated by an experienced Bristol Improv Theatre instructor, drop-ins are a great chance to try improv at Bristol Improv Theatre and connect with others. LGBTQ+ Improv Drop-In

Saturdays | 14:00 – 16:00 This is a fun and friendly workshop led by LGBTQ+  instructors for people who are LGBTQ+, and is open to all levels. You can be completely new to improv or looking to brush up on your basics and practise improv in a different context.  Sessions will focus on fun, representing your own identity(ies) in improv, and connecting with other improvisers. Why are we running these workshops? Whilst we aim to be an LGBTQ+ friendly venue and believe that improv is an empowering artform for everyone, we recognise that for many reasons – not least wanting to avoid stereotypes and prejudice – some people may not feel confident or even safe to be open about their LGBTQ+ identity in classes or when improvising. LGBTQ+ improvisers may worry about (or even have experienced) being judged, misunderstood, or stereotyped for their identity, or they may be put off by heteronormative bias (the expectation that heterosexual desire and relationships and binary gender are the default) in improvised scenes. The aim of these workshops is to build community and increase visibility, and make space for LGBTQ+ stories and experience in improv. This workshop will create a space that allows people to practise bringing their lived experience into their improvisation, as part of a supportive community. A note on the term “LGBTQ+”: The Bristol Improv Theatre uses the term LGBTQ+ as an umbrella term for sexuality and gender identities outside of heterosexuality and the gender binary.
