Sabbath Sunday

Why Sabbath Sunday?It has been our practice for many years to take a break over the August Bank Holiday weekend and for one Sunday during the Christmas holidays. However, now we're being more intentional about what we call these Sundays hence the name 'Sabbath Sunday'. It may be an odd thing to consider having a 'Sabbath Sunday' where we don't gather together. After all, for much of church history hasn't Sunday been considered a day of rest? Known as the Lord's Day or even referred to as the 'sabbath', Sundays have been a day for worship and a break from usual routines. Yet, today Sunday can be anything but restful, especially for the many people who serve our church on Sundays, not only that but those who work in service industries which are now often open 7 days. So, a Sabbath Sunday then, is an intentional time to pause the work of organising church life and give our focus more fully to the Lord, so that we all get a chance for a rest. When?Our first 'Sabbath Sunday' will be on Sunday 30th August to make the most of the bank holiday weekend. We won't be gathering at Trinity which will be closed for the day. What should I do instead?Well, it's up to you but perhaps you could find some creative ways to be community or to spend time with God, either as individuals, as a family or with other friends. The truth is, taking time to pause, pray, and re-position ourselves is a profound act of worship.
