Ibrahim Maalouf live in Cambridge

Ibrahim Maalouf, a trailblazing figure in French music, achieved global recognition over the past decade. In 2022, his album "Queen of Sheba" earned him a historic Grammy nomination, followed by another nod in 2023 for "Capacity to Love." His extensive career includes being the first jazz musician to fill France's largest concert hall, receiving multiple Victoires du Jazz and Victoires de la Musique awards, and international honors like the Echo Jazz in Germany. Collaborating with renowned artists and supported by Quincy Jones, Maalouf continues to break musical boundaries, as seen in his sold-out 2023 Accor Arena performance and the announcement of his 2024 world tour in the United States and Canada.

Shalamar

One of the most successful soul groups of all time, Shalamar return to the UK in 2026 to celebrate their 50th anniversary with The Gold Tour.Formed in Los Angeles in 1976 by Soul Train creator Don Cornelius and music executive Dick Griffey, Shalamar became a defining force in late ’70s and ’80s R&B, funk and dance music.With 18 UK Top 75 hits, 11 Top 40 singles, four Top 10 hits and over 25 million records sold worldwide, their influence on popular music and dance culture remains unmistakable.Rising from their breakthrough with debut single & album ‘Uptown Festival’, Shalamar went on to deliver a run of era-defining hits including ‘A Night To Remember’, ‘Take That To The Bank’, ‘The Second Time Around’, ‘Make That Move, Dead Giveaway’, ‘There It Is’, ‘Friends’ and ‘Dancin’ In The Sheets’; records that continue to fill dancefloors and festival fields worldwide.The group also played a central role in shaping modern dance culture. Voices of Hope & Compassion

Join us for this free and un-ticketed concert led by the poet Michael Rosen. The event is open to all to attend. Please arrive promptly at 3.45pm to ensure admittance.At the concert, Michael Rosen will be performing poems from his collection ‘On the Move’ and new specially commissioned poems.School children will also perform songs, readings, poetry, drama and dance pieces all inspired by Michael’s words and story-telling, in empathy with refugees.The civic community concert is organized by Helen Weinstein, Director of HistoryWorks, working with Michael and in partnership with local primary schools, secondary schools, and community colleges. About 3,000 school children have taken part this year.There will be a stall from Roving Books in the Corn Exchange foyer selling books by Michael Rosen. The profits will go to our two nominated refugee charities. Michael will be signing books and offering free selfies at a signing-table for participating families during the rehearsal and for the wider audience after the concert.There will also be stalls from the participating charities, Cambridge Convoy Refugee Action Group (Camcrag) and the Refugee Hardship Fund, with cash donation buckets and card readers.You can donate to Camcrag online or read Cambridge Ethnic Community Forum’s guidance for donating.
